Disregarding my opinion - the doppebock used to be in the BA top 25. I think spite ("It's not THAT great!") reviews pushed it down and it didn't have the sheer numbers that beers like Westy 8 & 12 have.
I think it's the best strong beer in all of Germany, although I think you'll find most fans are torn between this one and the doppelbocks from Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, & Weltenburger. To me this one has the best elements of all of those, but if there's a specific flavor you like (chocolate, dark bread, hazelnuts, raisins, etc.) you might prefer one of the others.

Any word on the Weissbier or Vollbier?

They didn't have the Vollbier in yet and I did not order the Weissbier (not enough room on the shelf quite yet. Taking up room is the Guinness 1759!)

I know my status suggests I am a total newb, but I'm just new to BA. I have been to Andechs in Bavaria and second Domingo's claim that it's the best dopplebock in Germany. I was super excited that it came to stores recently. Tried my first bottle and it was really good, though not as good as I remembered. Could be nostalgia factor...

$4-$5 per 500ml is a great price for that quality though!

Molly's had the Vollbier and the Doppelbock as of Sunday evening. They may have had the weiss too, but I didn't notice.

I believe the date code from the Doppelbock is from October, which is still dandy. Based upon memory, they freshness date that one for a full year even on the German bottles. I dunno if the helles (which is only 4.8%ABV and extra light) or their relatively hoppy weissbier will hold up as well. I'm still all about buying them, though.
No clue if they'll ever send it, but their 2nd best beer (behind the doppelbock) is their Bergbock Hell. It's essentially a heller-doppelbock and is every big as good as it's darker brother.

Damn, that dopplebock is good, and it tastes pretty fresh to me. There's none of the raisiny/pruiny oxidized flavors a lot of imports have. And unlike Prost, no diacetyl. Me likey.

Grapevine now has the helles and dark weissbier with recent dates, too. I could get used to this as long as they keep coming in fresh.
Hopefully Rothaus Tannenzäpfle will be next. That's the best German pils that gets exported and it's in a few spots in the US now.

picked some up at lukas liquor in Englewood yesterday; dopplebock, weizen, and helles. super happy we can finally get this in Denver now, some of bavarias finest.

for those homebrewers, white labs now carries a yeast strain called german lager X, which is rumored to be an Andechs lager strain (hard to find in stock right now) - will be brewing a pilsner with it in a couple weeks.

Chris White had visited my LHBS for Big Brew 2 years back. The description said from a Bavarian Monastary Brewery. I asked "Lager X, rhymes with Kloster Andechs?", he then had a funny grin and said that is a good guess.

Station 26 has a maibock on right now that's brewed with Andechs yeast. In fact, there are a few CO. lagers that are (or were, like Prost) using it, but very few publicize it.
