Nor does Mad Tree. They are quite explicit about the BJCP style for this beer. If you click on the Download the recipe link from their web site, you will see they list the beer as a BJCP 6-D American Wheat or Rye Beer. The BJCP style for Kölsch is 6C. (ref: BJCP 2008 Style Guidelines, Category 6)

My suspicion is that someone originated the BA listing as a kolsch but it isn't really a kolsch, or considered a kolsch by Mad Tree. From my prior post I mentioned that I saw nothing on MT's website referring to it as a kolsch. Props to them for not passing it off as one when the ingredient list is clearly otherwise.

I was in Cologne last year. I liked the small glasses the kolsch was served in, but the style was so light I am not that interested. Fruh has a big advertising budget in town and the packaging is cool, unfortunately the beer in uninspiring. Gaffel was my favorite.

I use to not like Kolsch at all, found them underwhelming. I've always liked lagers but have gained a fandom for Kolsch style. I am heavy into stouts so it was probably a natural thing for me to enjoy a light style.

I quite like Reissdorf. Gaffel is not bad. However, pretty much every American interpretation of the style has been lackluster.

I love a good Kolsch. The problem is that's its hard to find a good Kolsch in the states. COAST 32/50 is where its at though!

Kolsch beers along with bohemian pilsners are very underated. These should be appreciated within their style, but because they are lighter they only get credit for being better than adjunct lagers an light beers. They are what they are and it would make no sense to create a barrel aged kolsch or smoked bohemian pilsner to please the haters. My opinion, if you like it drink it!!!
