    Good luck with that!

    Cheers!

P.S. Just to be clear I too am of the opinion there should be a line here but with the contemporary craft beer drinkers I do not have much expectation here in this regard. We live in the craft brewing days of the wild, wild west it seems!?! :astonished:

Every now and again I see the BA motto and remember they're good words to follow. Does anyone really think this sort of "product" is respecting beer?

@Todd -- seriously interested in your opinion.

Well said, and I too would be very interested to hear those opinions. I had a longer winded response in process, but you hit the nail on the head.

If a brewery feels they need a non-"beer"y brand to keep up with the market, I would choose they brew these over seltzers. I can actually taste differences in these fruited beers vs all the non-descript seltzers out there.

First, they're just adding a ton of fruit puree to mimic Kool-Aid flavors and colors. Instagram is flooded with breweries releasing similar beers (and ones that go way beyond fruit puree). Brewers have been doing this for years now. It's become the norm. None of us should be shocked at this point.

Second, why are they doing it? Are they just having fun? Consumer demand? To keep competitive? Probably all three. Read the Facebook comments in the linked post. It's clear that their customers love it.

Third, are they respecting beer? The Devil's Advocate might say that as long as they're putting out a quality product that's stable (not to be confused with our opinion of the product), who are we to say that they're not? What does adding fruit puree in beer have to do with respecting beer?

Personally, I think it's a gimmicky AF, the branding/marketing is lazy AF (and blatant IP theft), and this thread only exists because they used the Kool-Aid brand.

Anyway. Each beer already has over 60 check-ins on Untappd and the lowest average rating is currently a 4.1: https://untappd.com/search?q=the+koolest

Let the kids drink their Kool-Aid beers.

Have I missed the word "Jello" in this discussion? Might be an adventure in packaging with the wide-mouth can making a comeback.

This is one of those situations in beer that I'm personally not interested in. I'm slightly insulted by this just because it's clearly laser-targeted at late millenials ('91, like me) and Gen Z, when it's about as far from what I want from my beer as possible. At the end of the day, they wouldn't make it if there wasn't a significant demand for it but it's not a doomsday for "real" beer.

Just makes my job slightly harder to explain or provide suggestions in a category I have limited or no experience nor interest in to potential customers; I likely won't go beyond approaching ones I do try from a purely analytical standpoint, as opposed to analyzing and enjoying it, like I do with most beer or products grouped into the beer category.

It's a shitload easier to sell product you're passionate about. It's hard to be passionate about intellectual-property-stealing, trend-chasing cash-grabs like this in my personal opinion.

In my head, the first brewer to do this and not get nearly the recognition these kinds of beer products get now said something like this:

As long as it's not a sour (sours aren't for me) I'd give one a try, why not? In Berlin they add soda to beer and radler is light beer with lemonade, after all. I even tried a Bud Light Lime. Once.

Thanks for the clarification, and can I add that we can hope this goes the way of Clear Beer, and just as quickly?

I would not call these sour (at least those I have tried). They are more along the lines of tart, like you get when drinking fruit juice or a smoothie. Honestly they drink very well, but it has to be what you want to drink if that makes sense.

+1 Excellent post...it reminds me of how my "beer" palate was formed...aside from being darn near addicted to Kool-Aid when I was young, in my former profession, I traveled and lived in many other countries. One of those was Argentina...the first thing my newly introduced teammates did was take me out and tried to get me drunk. We went to a restaurant and sat at a table and they brought out bombers of Quilmes Lager and Fanta Orange soda...and then they proceeded to mix them! :astonished::grimacing: I was disgusted and confused!!!! Ha! Until, of course, I tasted it....and I have been hooked on sweeter tasting beers (Hazy IPAs, Fruited Sours, Fruity Saisons/wild ales, etc.) ever since! LOL!

Johnny B. Good almost killed him. I saw parts of three Back to the Future films yesterday. The third one was veering close to Blazing Saddles in madcap and funny silliness. I do have a weak spot for that particular film franchise. "Do you have a back door"? "Yes" "Where is it"? "In the back".
