This is a two part post / question.

    1. Has this style ever existed on Beer Advocate?
    2. What is the best method to treat beers categorized by breweries for styles not listed here?
Request / discuss a style addition like this post?
Place the beer in the most similar style category currently on BA?

This second question has likely been discussed before, but I typically stay out of style discussions beyond advocating on placing a beer in the style the brewery lists / describes (like my fight for Heady Topper from NE to Imperial IPA).

The two other sites I go to when a beer or style isn't listed here for reference both list this style.

    Untapped: https://untappd.com/beer/top_rated?type=historical-beer-kottbusser
    Rate Beer: https://www.beeradvocate.com/ratebeer/?path=/tag/kottbusser/

I'm not sure this style is available enough to add here, or what the criteria is to consider adding a new style.

This all came to mind with the release of Nitro Scurry in Off Color's email newsletter. Scurry is currently listed as an Altbier here, but based on the brewers' notes, if BA won't add this style, Altbier may be the best spot for it among the currently available categories. This beer sounds awesome, and I want to get to the mousetrap ASAP to try some and pick up more to go.

Officially a Kottbusser (don't worry, no one else knows what that is either so go ahead and call it a Dark Honey Ale), Scurry is a traditional German style speciality beer featuring honey and molasses. These are added post boil so the minimal contact time helps the beer retain delicate aromatics that would otherwise be volatilized by the heat of the kettle. Wort high in these sorts of simple sugars can often produce a hot alcohol flavor; however, a cool, controlled fermentation avoids this pitfall allowing the beer to finish dry without any boozy detractors. Honey, molasses and milk chocolate aromas melded with oatmeal and bread crust flavors creating the perception of sweetness with a surprisingly dry finish. This newest batch is our first time doing nitrogenated cans, so enjoy and remember to hard pour for the full nitro experience! Don't know what that means? Check out this explainer video!

I can confirm that adding this beer style (and many others) is already part of the next big update.

Wait, RateBeer still exists? I thought it had died after (IIRC, InBev) bought it?

Yes, it’s still online, but discussions and activity have sadly dwindled to a trickle over the past few years.

My middle brother is on it and sadly doesn’t have an account here. I only use it as a beer ratings backup to this site, but working on merging all my ratings onto Excel, BA and RB. Have perhaps 2,000 to go.

The lone advantage I saw on RB to here pre RB sale was the broader base of European users and discussions of the European beer scene. I am glad BA is making an effort on that front. Would have been great if Untappd/BA bought RB instead of InBev, and merged the user groups together.
