It's important to point out that the Michigan Code of Silence (MCS) only extends to out of staters. We have a network of Michiganders that keep each other informed of what's going on here.

Is this worth the 30 dollar price tag? My good bud is picking me up a few things from there tomorrow. Also, hows that first gold rush barleywine?!?

Both very much worth it. The last time KRE was brewed was in 2007 and it came in 7.5oz bottles. It won't be brewed again for another 5years. Kuhnhenn is the best brewery in Michigan IMO, and they don't get a lot of "hype" which makes it better to visit.

So you say the hype is worth it? I have had it and if you want to compare a beer of the same "style" the barrel aged aventinus that you can get for 20$ a 750 blows it away in value or simply the 4$ bottle of Eisbock you can probably get on the shelf right about now. It is a good beer but worth not much more than any other beer. I know schneider is a far bigger brewery than Kuhnhenn but I can't think it costs kuhnhenn that much to freeze distill to warrant such a price.

Yes well u know they are basically a concentrated beer because of the freezing process. Its pretty damn good. 5 years ago they sold it for the same price ($15 for 7.5oz) so they aren't making a killing off this beer. If u don't like it that's cool, it's not everyone's style.

I've bought a 7.5oz, had it, enjoyed it, im just saying its not worth that much and I gave you 2 beers that use a similar freeze distilling process that are much cheaper and every bit as delicious.

I disagree but that's fine. More for me!

Isn't it possible that the price is determined by both the process and the ingredients that go into the beer?

I'm just pointing out that there is a similarly produced beer that has a much lower price point and just as good of a taste. And heck the Aventinus was even barrel-aged then blended on top of the freeze distillation process but it is well-priced and not super rare so it really isn't as good.

But you really don't know that it's similar. The process might be similar, but the ingredients could be vastly different.

Hell, I could make eisbock in my garage. Doesn't mean it's any good.

The only different ingredient is raspberries in the Kuhnhenn and Wine barrels and additional wheat for the Aventinus. That alone makes me confused that the prices could be so vastly different. I'm not sure what you are getting at with brewing Eisbock in your garage. Schneider and Kuhnhenn are both quality breweries, im sure most people would find their products "good". My point is I don't believe the numbers add up for kuhnhenn and I am adding the suggestion that you can get a similar-style beer that tastes as good for a fraction of the price. The funny thing is even if Schneider went ahead and added raspberries to their barrel aged aventinus (it would taste delicious) and they sold it for even 25$ it still would be massively cheaper than the kuhnhenn and it wouldn't be massively over-hyped.

You need to stop shopping at jewel. I pay $2 for a package of raspberries at most.
