Thinking of heading up to MI this weekend to hit a couple of breweries. I was thinking Dark Horse and Kuhnhenn because we haven't done them before and it looks like BA4D is still on. We've done Founders, Greenbush, Bells, New Holland. Any reason I should or should not make this trip?
BB4D was still on a couple of days ago. You'll have a great time on this trip and you might get to see quite a bit of incredibly bad, but generally friendly, service.
Head up to Central Waters. I'm sure they still have Peruvian Morning and BBBW on tap...lord knows what else.
IMO Kuhnhenn is one of the best breweries to visit in the US. Really down to earth people both as patrons and staff of the brewery, relaxed vibe, obviously awesome selection, and a bunch a of solid bottle shops within driving distance. I would hit up Dark Horse when they open, stop in Ann Arbor for lunch or early dinner(Jolly Pumpkin, Ashleys, Arbor) and then hit Kuhnhenn at night. Stay at the Holiday Inn about a mile away. Wake up early and hit all of the usual suspects on the way back to Chicago. I have spent a ton of time in Detroit for work and the city gets a bad rap IMO. Sure there are some horrible parts, but it is a lot Chicago where all of decent parts are pretty well segregated for a lack of a better term.
This is a great Idea, about hitting darkhorse when they open, then stopping in Ann Arbor before going to Kuhnhenns..Im a big fan of Jolly Pumpkin, so I might be a little biased..But when im in AA, I always stop at JP..They also have some North Peak stuff on tap if you want to try that.. And yes, Kuhnhenns is one of the best to visit imo..Ill be heading out that way tonight..BB4D for me..
