I am going to a Kuhnhenn tap takeover next Friday and was hoping to get some feedback on the following beers. I know I can search these beers individually for their reviews, but I am hoping to get a conversation going on which of these are must try's. The lineup: 1. Aldebaran IIPA 2. Timmy T’s (English Pale Ale) 3. DRIPA 4. Foreign Export Stout 5. Fluffer (session IPA) 6. Sully’s Kolsch 7. Iron Monger Dunkel 8. Loonie Kuhnie (American Pale Ale) 9. Michigan Mudd Stout (8%)
DRIPA and Fluffer are must tries. If you like Kolsch, the Sully's is well worth trying. I haven't had the Michigan Mudd, but it sounds good.
Another vote for DRIPA. My friend had the Mudd and said it was one of the best stouts he's ever had. Really, it's hard to go wrong with any beers listed there. Have fun!
so whats to choose, its only 9 beers...... But save room for dessert -- watch for something special like a bit of braggot or 4D they might throw in. Not to be missed. (but definately, start with the DRIPA and MUDD)
I too am confused. How often does one find Kuhnhenn outside of their p?b. My cusiosity couldnt hold me back from trying all 9.
It's true. I was told by one of the brothers that they actually have disposable kegs that they ship out there.
That's interesting. Had no idea they used those. Though, the distribution really isn't as "limited" as one might think. At any given time, you could easily find 6-7 Kuhnhenn beers on tap throughout the boroughs. Growler fills at various bottle shops aren't all that uncommon either (my buddy just got a fill of Aldebaran in Port Chester just a couple weeks ago and Fluffer is on at Good Beer right now). Looking forward to the Kuhnhenn night at Barcade this Thursday.
Sorry - that was unclear. It's generally pretty easy to find a few Kuhnhenn offerings at any given time in New York, but not any specific beer(s) consistently. There's no fixed release schedule or regular lineup - just whatever they can spare. It's also 99% kegs, although I bought BA4D at New Beer Distributors once. I suppose it's "limited" in selection and to purveyors of good beer.
There will be 3 events in the upcoming weeks. (brooklyn - barcade, manhattan, and westchester - lazy boy). I'll be hosting the event in Westchester, if you have any questions.
Kuhnhenn's dad once told me that the NY distributor made them an offer they can't refuse. They send refrigerated trucks to Kuhnhenn full of empty kegs, Kuhnhenn fills them, and send them on their way. Easy money.
Cool...so I've figured out where two of these takeovers are. Any idea where/when the one in Manhattan will be?
DRIPA, Michigan Mudd and Loonie are top notch in my opinion. Had the Aldebaran a few weeks ago and was a huge fan as well. Dunkel, Fluffer and export stout are pretty good too.
DRIPA, DRIPA, seriously DRIPA. Michigan Mudd and Alderbaran those are the must tried on that list although Im sure they are all good. Ive had plenty of DRIPA and some Michigan Mudd too. I haven't had the Alderbaran but everyone I've talked to that's had it says its great.
