Just got a mini-keg of Kulmbacher Edelherb Premium Pils at the store today. Problem is... it's different than the Heineken and New Castle Brown Ale mini-kegs that I've used in the past, and I realized that all of its instructions are in German! There's a little plastic thing on the bottom of the side, and another plastic thing on the middle of the top panel. Typing the instructions up and running them in a translater is not helping either. Does anyone know how to set these things up and use them? The last thing I want to do is screw up and waste beer!

Well... I just winged it. I'm still not 100% sure how to use this thing, but it seems to work. Only problem is I seem to be getting glasses full of head, even if it doesn't seem to be coming out fast. It's hard to judge exactly how the glass is angled so that might be it, plus the first glass was by far the worst (barely any liquid beer in that one).

I can say that while I originally didn't think I cared for German pilseners, or hell, even Czech pilseners for that matter (not too much of a pilsener fan), this stuff is surprisingly good. The in-your-face heavy bitterness of the first few German pils that I've had left me disappointed by the style in general. While this stuff most definitely has a prominent bitterness, it seems to be nicely counter-balanced by hops, leading to quite an impressive pilsener overall to in my opinion.

If I had to guess, I'd say the thing on top lets air in, and the thing on the side drains the beer. If it's like the Bells ones, you pull out the plunger thing on the side, and then turn the tab on top. Beer should flow pretty easily.

Yes, it seems something like that. I pulled the thing out from the side and turned it. The top can be turned, as it says (like the only English bit of instructions...), but what it doesn't make clear is that not only can it be pulled out without any harm, it probably *has* to be pulled out to bend the plastic, then put back in... *then* it can be turned. There's a little button in the middle of the plastic thing on the side which seems to let the beer out--press harder, it comes out faster. Which is why I'm confused as to why the air thing is even up there on the top.

Some of them you just twist the top, some you have to punch in that rubber plug. once you do either you shoudl ahve a good flow, and you can control the flow if you have the one with the twist top.
