I was there last Wednesday (took the DB bus from Düsseldorf after a day of Stickebier) . Dirk had fallen (at a movie theatre) and injured his arm and was moving even slower than the last time I was there (last December). He was in obvious pain. I asked Leen what she was going to do with the down time and she pointed to a big stack of books and said "read all of those."

I really do hope things go well but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't reopen. Not saying that is what is going to happen or even that it is likely, but he reminded me of my Granddad when he was counting down the days to his 65th birthday (and retirement). But if the surgery goes well then things will be better.

BTW he was sporting a beard because he had trouble shaving with his injured arm

This has been my fear as well, and a reason I really wanted to get over there before they close for his surgery. :slight_frown:

with the amount of inventory he has, he will have to sell or re-open. it will take him a while to go through that inventory. you don't close and sit on what's likely hundreds of thousands of euros' worth of inventory.

maybe Mikkel will make an offer to buy it again

I hope Dirk has a speedy and successful recovery. I hope Mikkel and Jeppe stick to peddling their overpriced shit and their feuding brothers schtick elsewhere.

    went by Kulminator yesterday.
the sign on the window that says they're closed until " ??? 2017" is fucking depressing

Somewhat on topic...... Does anyone know the availability of their 40th anniversary beer? I'd like to know a bottle count and if they still have it on tap.

I am pretty sure the kegs are gone -- though it wouldn't surprise me if there were one hidden away somewhere : ) Don't know about the bottles -- they had some last December but I didn't ask when I was there in October.

    https://www.facebook.com/pg/Kulminator.friends/posts/?ref=page_internal

"Now we got some news, so far he says, the knee is doing well, recovering is going the good way, and if everything stays going this well Kulminator should be able to open again end of February ! ( note that this is just an estimation ! updates will follow )"

Nothing official Jimbo, but they did respond to a comment on the FB page < 24 hours ago telling people to keep an eye open.

BTW, Sue and I still have that old bottle (2003?) of Stille Nacht that Dirk and Leen gave us a few years ago on the precondition that we open it with you. :grinning:

still not the idea way to run a business. lol.
is the payroll tax *that* inhibitive in Belgium that a disabled senior citizen will not hire a part-time employee?
    it's both funny and sad.

Not an insignificant issue, as seen in understaffing at bars all over the country -- with the highest tax burden on labor in the developed world. Now, there may be some control freakery as well, going on -- the price of character, perhaps.
