It's taken a bit longer than they thought it would, but Kulshan's new brewery/tasting room should be open within the next month: http://www.bellinghamtaptrail.com/kulshan-brewing-co-about-to-open-second-brewery-in-bellingham/
Great looking space and beautiful woodwork. I covet those bench seats with the "back bar" to set a drink on.
And, a FB post from a friend just showed that they've got the first batch in the brew system today! Whispers of the tasting room being open soon (10-14 days-ish).
If only their beers were better, I have tried, and tried, and tried again to get on board, but nearly every single beer I have tried from them has been over hopped, for no apparent reason. Nice looking space though, and they always manage to be packed with people.
You realize that you live in the NW, and over-hopping is what we do, right? I find Bastard Kat to be smooth, easily drinkable, and well balanced. In fact, I wouldn't tend to find Kulshan guilty of over-hopping anything. Even their ImpIPA, Double Brother, is fairly smooth and well balanced for the style.
Yes, I get that, and there are many breweries who do it well, Fremont for one... Bastard Kat is a bit unbalanced for me, but if you enjoy it then that's what matters. I am speaking more towards their Good Ol Boy, Saison, Red Cap, are all over hopped for the style, for no apparent reason. Over hop the shit out of an IPA please, I'm on board.
Made a visit on Sunday. Nice space. For now, it's 21+ only, but they're talking to the authorities about getting that changed to be family friendly. The brewery is big, with lots of shiny, new stainless. Food trucks will rotate, just like the OG location. Best thing? They had Orange Blossom Special on tap. It's a Citra IPA, that has been the absolute favorite beer I've had from them. Drank 4. The location is a bit awkward, and not terribly walker friendly, but it should do well.
And, @BellinghamTapTrail has posted this: http://www.bellinghamtaptrail.com/k2-is-open-take-a-virtual-tour-or-just-go-yourself/ While looking at that, I had an idea. I know that BTT has a baby. I know that, for the time being at least, K2 is 21+. What if, in addition to bike racks, K2 installed racks where you could insert the kiddo's car seats? Go out every so often and stuff a bottle in their mouth. Or, like when you leave your dog tied up outside, folks will be constantly stopping to pet it, give it fresh water/ice, etc. Your wouldn't lack for attention, free baby-sitting! I'da been such a great dad.
