Hi folks, looks like I'm going to be in La Crosse for a few days the first week of June. The Bodega looks to be my kind of place, so that's definitely in the cards. Anywhere else I should be aware of? Any good liquor stores within walking distance of the riverside area? I'm not looking for whalez, but am all about lugging a bunch of New Glarus lagers back with me.
Festival is probably your best bet, it's 1/2 mi. north of the main drag. Root Note and Sloopy's appear to have some decent taps.
Agree with above that Festival has a nice selection. Bodega is fun too. We used to just have them spin the lazy susan refrigerator thing and give us whatever beer it stopped on, a beer roulette of sorts. anyway... The Brewing Projekt is located a bit North in Eau Claire, but distributes to the area. If you can get a hold of their fresh IPAs they are really impressive. Also currently on shelves is a good amount of Cassian Sunset from central waters, which is probably one of the most pleasant barrel aged stouts (w/ coffee, vanilla, cinnamon) you'll ever drink. If you are planning to transport beer back to CO I would definitely put that on the list. Have a good time!
The Root Note is right across from Bodega and usually has a great taplist. Turtle Stack Brewery is a couple of blocks away and is worth checking out.
@AndyChambers has got you covered. La Crosse gets a pretty steady stream of Toppling Goliath's IPAs to take back to CO as well.
Thanks for the advice. I have to admit that I was somewhat surprised to discover how close TG was to La Crosse. On future trips (where I have some more time), I'll probably make a trip down there to see the place.
I second the Root Note. Great coffee, food, and beer. Woodman's is worth a shout. It's technically in Onalaska, but they're basically the same town. Seems like not many beer geeks go there, and they always have a ton of Toppling Goliath, Central Waters, and New Glarus, plus probably the best prices in the city (though I admit I have not been to Festival or the Bodega).
The drive in the Driftless Area is worth the trip TG itself to be honest. While it's not beer related, the Charmant Hotel in La Crosse is a really nice hotel and has a great rooftop bar right by the river.
Not to revive an old thread but has the new dare mighty things cryo citra dropped in the area yet? I saw it his Minneapolis so I’m thinking It’s possible but I haven’t spotted it at a store yet.
