Thanks to the good folks from San Diego who are putting together a BCBS Vert, this idea dawned on me. I'd like to get a share going in the LA/OC area for anyone willing help complete a 04-15 Dark Lord Vertical, if at all possible I'm sure there have been many small DL verticals had but what if we can gather them all and enjoy amongst good company, unfortunately don't have hosting capabilities but I can find a venue as soon as we get enough interest and set a date probably for September and also I'll supply the sushi...

    Vintage guide:
    Red wax = 2004
    Orange wax = 2005
    Gold wax = 2006
    Silver wax = 2007
    Black wax = 2008
    White wax = 2009
    Green wax = 2010 - 15% ABV
    Yellow wax = 2011 - 15% ABV
    Red wax = 2012 - 15% ABV
    Orange wax = 2013 - New Label 15% ABV
    Blue wax = 2014 - 15% ABV
    Maroon wax = 2015 15% ABV

My current contributions that I'll be glad to bring
    Dark Lord 13 Orange Wax
    Dark Lord 14 Blue Wax
    Dark Lord 15 Maroon Wax

    Looking for
Dark Lord 04 -Dark Lord 2012

Generally if you're looking for people to share their rare beers for a vertical, it helps to contribute something of equal rarity. You're basically asking someone to bring whales in the early DL vintages and share them in exchange for pours from the three most recent (and easily attainable) batches. You may get some interest, but it's going to be tough.

Yeah I am doing one here in SD but we only have '10 - '15 (I am providing all of them), I think someone was going to bring a '09 along...maybe...I just can't drink them all by my lonesome.

You're going to need a lot of take-out sushi to get through that.

Thankfully we are having it in mira mesa. I don't like sushi all that much, but there are at least a dozen or so pho places.

Seriously, soy sauce doesn't belong anywhere near a bowl of pho.

We're getting a bit far afield from the original topic here, but I could actually see doing a coffee rubbed flank steak with a DL reduction sauce. You're not going to want to drink all of it, may as well put it to good use.

Plain noodles should do the trick for anti-sushi ppl like myself though. But I agree, sushi would be the way to go.

You can use substitute the soy sauce in cold soba dipping sauce with Dark Lord. lol

10-15 drops of vanilla extract in each taster and I'm sure people will love them.

I think the major problems with these is that you're going to be hard pressed to find someone with the vintage stuff (who isn't getting the newer stuff on the regular anyway) to pop them open when the main bait/seed beer to this whole thing is the last 3 most recent offerings.

So you're basically looking to ride on the kindness of others to bring the real heat and ghost beers to the party that you can't even host? Nice idea, but still needs kinks to be worked out to make it enticing for those who have the harder to find and will be doing more of the real heavy lifting in getting this done.

I'm not getting the newer stuff on the regular. Never had Dark Lord. I don't really chase stuff though. If it finds me, it does. If not, plenty of great stouts around. I've heard lots of mixed reviews on it as well.

What I'm saying with that is it'll be hard pressed to find someone who does have pre-08 DL's that has just dropped off getting any newer ones. So the worth to him in bringing a vintage bottle, when the host/organizer is only offering up the most easy to finds variety isn't that great. If they've been collecting for that long, getting DL yearly will be something that's on auto pilot already.

I know what you're saying. And I agree. Was just offering commentary.
I never really understood the whole vertical thing...

Yeah, when I put together shares, I generally just like throwing a theme out there and seeing what sort of things people think of to fit said theme.

verticals have always been a meh spot. Especially after I attempted to do a downtown LA 50/50 Eclipse various horizontal/vertical of several years. Holy shit, the only thing to come out of that was regret.

The point you're making is valid and was going to happen sooner or later and I understand the concept of people thinking the host or planner should bring the heavyweight portion of the vertical but unfortunately that's not the case I don't have these "ghost beers" you speak of if its not possible to find anything past 2009 so be it , I rather have 2-3 good people who would like to share a smaller vertical and avoid that mentality that " we are taking advantage of their whales" or mooching , I was going to open my 3 bottles soon but then I decided to give this thread a try to see if people liked the idea but instead it got shitted all over by that mentality aforementioned

I might be interested (not sure yet), I have some older vintages-- anyone interested in contributing some BA dark lords?

You have to be realistic about what you're asking for.
