Does anybody have any lager recommendations at the LCBO?

What lagers should they bring in? I see no reason why more Aecht Schlenkerla, Ayinger or Weihenstepaner beers can't be brought in. Finding a distributor for Great Lakes (Ohio) and Jabby Brau would be nice too.

Why do we have so few decent lagers? We lost Celebrator, canned Brooklyn Lager is almost always dated last February, and we have little else.

PS Today I found a Hofbrau Original at the Kingston/Morningside LCBO with a bb Oct 15 2015, so I'm guessing it's less than three months old. I just had it, and it's comparable to but not quite as good as the Weihenstepaner. Before today, all bottles were dated last May or July.

I never see much Maibock in the LCBO, I wouldn't mind seeing Hofbrau Maibock make an appearance. I'd also like to see Yesibu and more stuff from Surly, like Surly Hell and Surly Schadenfreude and of course their awesome coffee bender.

As a side note, Weihenstepaner predominantly does Weizen, a type of ale. King Vienna Lager and King Pilsner though are the German style kings in Ontario.

Old Flame Brunette and Side Launch Dunkel are far nicer than anything by King. King's Vienna and Dunkel are horrible. Weihenstepaner makes more than Weissbier.

Not from Ontario but I saw Kozel at the beer store last trip to Toronto that blows the doors of Jever.

As far as King, When did sitting above 3.5 become horrible?

As far as Weihenstepaner, while there certainly is a case for Original to cross the pond, but I have serious doubts that any of their other non-wheat beers are brewed in enough volume for the LCBO's taste.

Possibly the King Dark Lager 6-pack I bought was a bad batch, but it had more cooked vegetable taste than any other beer I have had. It was the first and only <5% drain pour I have ever had.

I had the Vienna Lager a few times and each time I noticed it was very thin and spritzy, like pop or soda water. It lacked the dry malt presence and nice hopping that better examples have.

King Pilsner is the best of the bunch. When it was first canned I bought it a dozen or so times. I started noticing some banana esters in some cans, and it turned me off of it. Pilsners should be clean and more hop-forward.

I could be wrong but I think we had Weihenstepaner's doppelbock a few times in the past.

To each their own I suppose. I just think even though it might not be my personal cup of tea, calling it horrible when there there is a fair consensus that it's at least decent is a bit unfair, but once again, to each their own. I personally am a huge fan of all three King Brews, although have yet to have their Pilsbock if it's still around.

As far as the Doppelbock, maybe, but I've never seen it in a Hamilton LCBO. I know their Weizenbock (Vitus) has been here a couple times. Either way, to the topic. Another one would be New Glarus. Two Women Lager and Cabin Fever I'd love to see make it to Ontario.
