What is the lager that you think is the cleanest and crispest. I'm looking for my next keg and have a hankering for a clean and crisp lager. I'm thinking SABL. Thoughts?

    Weihenstephaner or Hofbrau Original.

Not sure where in PA you are, but the Spring Creek Lager from Otto's in State College is a good Vienna lager. If you're closer to Philly, Victory, Sly Fox, and Stoudts all make very nice Helles lagers.

    Victory Prima Pils.

Though personally, at this time of year I'd go a little less crisp and get Victory's Festbier instead.

I just had the Sly Fox Helles last night- that's one fantastic beer. I've always been a fan of their Pikeland Pils as well.

I'll admit, I recently bought it because of the gimmicky can (was planning on hiking with some beers to watch a sunset). Always been a fan of Sly Fox, but I either forgot about or never tried their Helles before. It's quite delicious!

I don't think that they got approval for that can in NY- the ones I have are a regular pop-top. It would have been cool sitting on the deck with those removable lids, but at least we get the beer.

Sly Fox Helles is a good choice. I'm not really looking for a pils, but thanks.

Festbier is a good choice, but I wanted something a little less malty.

If not a pils, I've always been a fan of Stoudts Gold.

Sly Fox Helles, Stoudt's Gold, or Victory Lager.

Keith, Victory still has sixtels of this summer's Throwback Lager. It is one of the best batches in the last 8 years. It is pre-prohibition style lager that Schmidt's yeast is used. The malt bill is about 15% maze. It has a lovely dry, crisp finish.

Great Lakes Oktoberfest is a stand out winner in the lager category.

Keith, if you purchase the Throwback Lager please report back. I had several years of Throwback Lager but that was a long time ago; those beers tasted like a regular AAL to me.

    Cheers!

After doing some research, I doubt I'll jump for an entire keg of the Throwback.

Right now I'm leaning towards Stoudts Gold Helles. I had a GL Ofest last year and it was terrific, but I can't find it this year. I can always go Victory Festbier or SA Octoberfest.

Jack, I revisited Sly Fox yesterday and I found it to be too thin. Yes, it is a bit hoppier, but it just left me wanting more.

I ended up getting the old tried and true, Sam Adams Ofest. I got it home and poured a fresh one and it was freaking fantastic. In fact, it was a little more bitter and drier than I remember. It's a great readily available Ofest and I'm glad I got it. This keg won't last long.....my wife even likes it.

Keith, it is always a genuine bonus when the wife is happy. I have to homebrew a lot of IPAs to keep my wife happy.

    Cheers!

    Jack
