These guys haven't really been on the So. Cal. craft beer radar, probably because they mainly cater to a local crowd in their RSM and Laguna Beach tasting rooms and, while none of the beer of theirs that I've tried is "bad", it's generally just ok to good (there are some styles that I've tried that I would characterize as pretty solid). But they just announced bringing on a new head brewer, Chis Linn from Beachwood. While I don't know Chris or how big a role he played at Beachwood, I think this is a really positive development and hope the folks at LBBC give him some room to do his thing. The folks that run LBBC are all really good folks, so it would be great if they could elevate their beer game and become a worthy destination for beer geeks. I'm rooting for you Chris!
That’s the key thing....give Chris some room to brew. I feel a lot of these city breweries want to stick to the same recipes. Knowing that that’s what their prime customers want. Huntington Beach Brewing Co and Newport are the same. I’ll stick with my local HB offerings, Beachwood and RiiP.
LBBC is by far the closest brewery to my house. I probably get in there once a month or so purely out of convenience. I would love to see them step up their beer game. Heck, just having really solid IPAs on tap at all times would be great. Hopefully Chris can help them with this.
From my understanding Chris’s first recipe Greeno just tapped this past weekend. My friends and all I liked it a lot. Really solid clean hoppy pale ale. We took a few growlers home for the super bowl. If Chris can brew hoppy beers like this that seem to have a Beachwood influence it could be a really good thing.
