I'm also in the camp that doesn't think that Sumpin' Extra is close to as good as Sucks. I picked up 2 six packs when it hit here, mostly based on the hype, and have only drank a few of them. It's good, but not in the same class as Sucks IMO.

So I'm somewhat concerned about what may be an unfortunate consequence of the new Lagunitas brewery in Chicago.

Let me state that first; I am obsessed with IPA freshness and, second; I happen to work in manufacturing for a fortune 500 company. I know from experience that when you are pressed for capacity, you have to cycle through your products relatively quickly to avoid shortage/back order issues. And that when you have a favorable capacity situation you are free to commensurately lengthen the interval between production runs.

My concern is this: is the average age of Lagunitas' hoppy beers going to increase because they have doubled(?) capacity? Did they previously, for example, brew Hop Stoopid every month to keep the channel full, but are now free to brew it every other month because they can brew a batch in Petaluma and one in Chicago?

I'm asking this in this thread because it concerns me particularly when it comes to seasonal beers. I'm hoping to see a second batch of Sumpin Extra from Petaluma, but I'm not counting on it.

    Thoughts?

Saw the 32oz'ers of Sucks today at the store. I laughed when Is saw it. Not as ridiculous looking as a magnum but still funny to me for some reason.

I could suck down bottles of Sucks all day, so I'll be definitely be on the lookout.

Yes you are right on it that aftertaste and extra hop even though its 50%wheat shines through. Got a growler of this couple of weeks ago and was in heaven.

I don't know if you are in the Atlanta area, I saw Imperial Red at Green's on Buford Highway this past Friday. Went back and got three more today.

Sumpin' Extra just landed in SW Michigan today but it looks like shops only got 1 case and some are selling it in singles, I was able to get a full 6 pack though. I gotta say I'm a bit disappointed by it, I think it's a bit thin and the alcohol is a bit noticeable, I guess I just prefer regular Little Sumpin'. Bottling date was 203, which is decent but not as fresh as the first shipment of Sucks we got. Hoping for Sucks 32s soon.

Interesting that you find them especially malty. They're not necessarily a go-to brewery for me, but I had a good old Lagunitas IPA a couple weeks back that was stupendous, mostly because it just seemed like a big old pine and citrus bomb, fresh and sharp, just how I like 'em.

I do agree that stuff like Sucks can get a little sweet, in the same way DirtWolf gets a little sweet.

Any particular Lag brews you haven't been as keen on lately?
