Give it a few months. Coffee tends to fade with time.

Are the coffee forward batches from Chicago '2' because the California batch '1' I have is so light on coffee I can't barely taste it.

My experience too. Rich chocolate malt flavors with a spicy barrel character supporting, coffee could easily be mistaken for a result of the roast from malts and woody astringency I get from whiskey barrel beers sometimes

interesting perspective- my experience with this beer is almost the opposite. I feel that there isn't much coffee presence, but then again, I also drink a lot of coffee, so my threshold is most likely higher. I am eagerly anticipating KBS espresso- hopefully it is full on coffee!

Interesting. I don't see batches marked anywhere on the bottle or four pack - am I just missing it, or is there a code I don't see?

There is the usual date code found on the neck of Lagunitas bottles. e.g., 288 9 2 where the '2' indicates it was brewed at the Chicago brewery.

Do you happen to know if all their facilities have numbers? I know there is one in southern CA in addition to petaluma and Chicago and I thought there was a facility in Seattle as well, but that might just have been a taproom

I thought Lag put the expansion into SoCal production on the kibosh. I could be wrong.

Last I heard they had a large facility in Azusa, I'm not certain it's a production facility though

Personally I think both beers are in the same realm (and both are delicious), but the Willet is half the price. I will begin reintroducing the KBS back into my rotation in 3 months when the Willetized runs out. KBS is patiently waiting on the shelves until then

This is a great point and I often have a similar experience with bourbon presence. I drink a fair bit of bourbon so I'm often searching for the barrel character in beers that others describe as fairly bourbon forward.

Maybe we need to add 'bourbon' and 'coffee' to the "lupilin" shift pile :sunglasses:

Finally made it to Houston. Chilled one and cracked it just then. Nice, good barrel, not too much coffee. A deal for the price. Will give it the rest of the week, if there is more there this weekend, going to grab another 4 pack. Too good a deal to pass up.

I tried the KBS espresso...didn't get much coffee. I like my coffee strong so maybe that's why I didn't get much. Somewhat disappointing compared to the regular KBS.

Has anyone aged any vintages of this? What were the results? I picked up a single and had it the other day and loved it, found another single today and thinking about cellaring it

$12.99 in California. If you pay anything near that you are getting a good price.

There are still a few bombers of the 2018 at a store nearby so you might be able to find some in stores. Dm me if you want to meet up to trade for a bottle of the 17 or the 18.
