Simcoe and Mosaic can for me be off putting, I don't get onion more funk and cat piss in some beers. In single hop beers that is, Moasic blends beautifully. I picked up a Mosaic Promise and wanted to try it, but then I remember past single hop efforts and put it down. If I read right Simcoe and Mosaic are cousins in a way and share a lot of the same properties.

I've got a sixer to spare. Let me know when you can meet up.

Finally found some and it's somehow even better than last year's. The only thing missing to make this a NE style IPA is that creamy mouthfeel.

You guys remember when Sucks almost tasted this good?

Yeah, but that's a big thing. I think the real oddity about this batch of Born Yesterday is that it's super carbonated. Like more than non-hazy beers. I had it on draught first too, and felt it had more of the consistency / feel / taste of soda than juice.

It's 7%, finishes dry, to get that big creamy finish you'd have to bump stuff up a notch , both in hops and my. I'm in if they do that.

I think you are recalling my posts on the compound of 4MMP (4-mercapto-4-methylpentan-2-one ). There are various hops which have higher amounts of 4MMP such as Citra, Simcoe,… I personally have never perceived onion flavors from hops which are higher in 4MMP. For example, Simcoe tastes like pine for my palate. I have read where some folks perceive 4MMP as being cat piss.

@suregork in a white paper states:

    “Various sulphur compounds

    Cheesy/onion/garlic”

    http://beer.suregork.com/?p=2259

Maybe he can provide more input here.

    Cheers!

P.S. By the way, 4MMP is a sulfur compound.

Edit: Gubna in the past was brewed using Summit hops; some folks reported tasting onion in beers which featured Summit hops.

Picked up two sixers in Central VA and absolutely love it. I didn't get any of the previous versions so have no comparison, but this is a lovely tasting beer balanced really well with the body and a nose that explodes into the room as soon as the cap pops off.

Brandon FL TW has about 15 cases. (Was surprised to find '16 Celebration just arrived. Born 10/6. Where is the annual hype?)

If the big boys good make beer this good and get it to us fresh, they would give local breweries a run for their money. If any of the local breweries in NYC canned something as good as this people waiting in line for beer would be losing their shit.

I definitely get "onion" taste with Mosaic hops. I however, love it

I had my second bottle and I like it but don't love it, one 6 pack will be enough for me...I have found through various beers that Mosaic doesn't rank too high on my hops list.

Yup. Sixer out of Seattle definitely doesn't have near the haze I'm seeing in some of the pictures. It's also not nearly as fruit/juice forward as I'm hearing.

Solid and easy drinking, but I'm not on board with the hype. Granted I'm coming out of a fresh hop haze up here in the PNW, so may be a little bias.

Crazy, here in North Carolina our Born Yesterday is very hazy and juicy!

Sounds like what I was thinking of, thanks for the reply.

Ah, didn't know that, thanks again. I can't think of any beers I've had that were single hopped with Summit, or simply included Summit in the hop bill. At least none that I'm aware of or can remember off the top of my head. I'm sure there's been some that at least included Summit.

Reading all these posts/reviews is driving me nuts and I KNOW I'm going to love it when I get my paws on some tomorrow. My local Total Wine just got some in @ $10.99 6pk. Looking forward.

Yeah, same. Also from Summit as mentioned earlier in the thread. I like it though.

Im Celebrating that a big Brewer gets it. They managed to get out a big release nationally that was sitting in my fridge in 4 days. No fanfare no limits, I'd like to see more do this and they'll sell every damn bottle they put out there in 30 days or so. Great beer, great for Lagaunitas and the customers.
