Here in Boston we received both versions, so I don't think location mattered. I drink a lot of Trillium, and it was just as murky/turbid (or at least close to it) as Trillium's hoppy beers. And the taste followed suit. I had it both in the bottle and on draft. In fact, I think I had a Trillium beer after the Lagunitas' Born Yesterday on draft. It more or less was just as good as the Trillium.

It was the first time I ever had a nationally distributed New England style IPA/pale ale. Naturally I wanted to grab more, so I had my brother pick up another six pack. He looked at me weird after tasting it, because I know he loves Trillium, and this was not like Trillium. Not only was it only slightly hazy (@Brent212's description of an unfiltered Enjoy By is accurate), but it was far more West Coast style than New England style in taste.

I'll try to see if I can dig up some pictures of the two from last year. After Photobucket, um, kicked the bucket for me, I haven't been posting images. Need to find a new image hosting site.

There was some discussion about why there were two batches, and one answer was that it depends on which part of the tank they pulled the beer from. I also think this is one of the pain points and issues with brewing a New England style IPA on a scale this large.

I don't remember how long it took, but I do remember it falling off VERY quickly. Even quicker than some New England style IPAs I have had. And those typically fall off around a month or so for me.

About as hazy as it gets. Salivating by just looking at this picture
    2015 for comparison

Not hazy at all. Still really delicious, just less juicy and more vegetal/dank (which I don’t mind at all)
The 2016 was incredible but both versions are outstanding and unbeatable for the price. Can’t wait to pick up the 2017 version!

Still liked 2015 the best, hoping at some point they add Amarillo back into the mix.

Having this year's on draft now (NorCal), pretty damn clear #sorryhazebros

Since this was bottled a day earlier this year, I expect it to be on the shelf at my stores one day earlier. Based on last year's transit times, I expect to see it tomorrow. Looking forward to this, regardless of how hazy (or not) it is!

Mine wasn't even close to that, could've probably taken a photo of the label through the pint pour legibly.

I recognize the 'season' for Born Yesterday is still early but it seems that there is a notable difference in this beer again from CA to IL as regards appearance (and flavor?).

    Cheers!

I will be buying some here in Arizona this week, and will likely be drinking some in Indiana in two weeks. I'll be looking forward to the comparison, and will try to document it photographically.

Although it would have been neat to see if I would have noticed a difference on my own, without a heads up from you guys.

I want to say I had the CA batch exclusively last year. Tons of hop particle "floaties" that, in other beers, turn to more of a haze, and less of a visible floatie. I see those visible floaties once in awhile with attempted "hazy IPAs" and the flavor has never deterred. But there is definitely a small change in the brewing process that may be making the IL version turn those floaties into full on haze.

Here;s one shot from last year
    [IMG]

If you can look through near the bottom, you can sort of see the hop particles individually. The true Haze bomb IPAs seem to have all those elements combine and just turn super hazy. This beer never did that for me. Still one of the best releases of the year for me. I think I went 6 sixers deep in a good 6 week span. Local Breweries would be selling this same type of beer as a $6/pint exclusive. Yet I still happened to hear complaints on the $11/sixer price point of this beer. So we may never win the price war (at least perception wise).

Someone else mentioned the fall off being quite extreme *like other NE IPAs. I tend to disagree. it was evolving by that 5th week. But I still felt it was better than alot of whats out there. But I could see how one could perceive it not being a WOW worthy crazy hop aromatic bomb, even after 2 weeks. I still saw flashes of brilliance almost up to Christmas. So I will plan accordingly again this year. I've seen some NE IPAs fall off past day 10. I received this beer about a week after bottling, and it didnt let up for a good month. So this had something going for it

Yeah--they emailed a rebate form for a free case. Not valid in MA though--stupid blue laws.

Most rebates work by the consumer mailing in a receipt and the vendor then sends a check in that amount. How is Lagunitas implementing this rebate?

    Cheers!
