Arrived in NM today, some five days ahead of schedule vs. last year.

Huge citrus aromatics (I want to say last year was more explosive).
    Relatively clear

This may be a true love or hate sort of beer for people. Mouth feel is light and starts dry with a crisp co2 bite. Mouth feel tends to soften the more you drink. It's softish but never feels sweet or creamy, if that makes sense.

Scary abv given how easy it is to drink.

Taste is giving me some juicy citrus vibes but also a burst of what I perceive to be a type of onion/spicy note, which I personally love.

Ibus never seem to linger but you know they are there. I want to say 60-70 range.

This feels more like a really great fresh local ipa more than what felt like an entirely different experience with last year's.

I may still go 1-2 cases deep as this is just drinking way too good right now. Cherish these moments. A really nice change of pace for me. Great price point too.

Classification wise, 60-70% leaning towards a WC Ipa styling with juicy citrus elements. Not expecting a total NE style may help some here. More than anything, it's your typical lagunitas ipa amped up in hops, aroma, and freshness. To me, that makes it a top tier easily available product

Seems like last year - Petaluma = no Hazy, Chicago = Hazy!

I really enjoyed this last year. The Born Again Yesterday earlier this year, not so much. Looking forward to trying this Fall's version.

Got this in NH surprisingly. Fresh and delicious. Citrus and tropical fruit flavors up the butt without losing that signature Lagunitas character.

Glad I picked up 2 sixers.

So a boycott on product you can get similar but not on limited great price beers?

I guess you buy BCBS only too.

Some boycott you have there....bet your a vegetarian that eats meat when you go to a steak house.
Have the heart to do what you really believe in or just dont bother

No. I am so over the bullshit of boycott any beer company that does what it feels is in its best interest.

If you want to boycott then go ahead but I don't want to hear I only buy X product from them.

As far as big beer goes there are way way worse companies out there than InBev or Heineken.

If the beer changes that's different. Not a boycott though just not good product.

    @raynmoon yeah
    Way over the top.

This, their high west, and waldos are the only beers I buy from them post buy out. I think @vinylfiend1 s concerns are valid. There are different levels of boycotts you know. People would have to be living off the grid if they wanted to be 100% against certain sectors.

Imho, I could be spending $600/ year on their products. But choose to limit it to around $120. That's my little bit of protest showing that I don't agree with the buy out but I also like to support a solid product. Am I a hypocrite?

:to engage in a concerted refusal to have dealings with (a person, a store, an organization, etc.) usually to express disapproval or to force acceptance of certain conditions

Buying even one beer is not boycotting.

I've almost finished my sixer and I've enjoyed this iteration. It's possible some people will miss Citra being included this year and the flavor aspects which Citra entails but as a fresh hop ale, this delivers in spades imo. I agree with a reference above regarding the fruity pith bitterness and I'm digging it. For 10.99 a sixer this is a great deal (~$9.75 for those who only purchase hoppy beers in 4pks of 16 oz cans ). As far as whether the beer is hazy/turbid/opaque or clear, I could not care less as my most important characteristic is taste not appearance. Now to track down another sixer...

Hit the Nashville market today. Slight chill haze on the bottle I poured tonight, so already a lot different than my experience last year. Aromas on point with last year (deeply dank and fruity, though I feel like last year was more tropical and this year more citrus-oriented) but the taste is a very different experience: very dry and fairly mellow, this year, versus last year's massive juicy sweetness.

@Giantspace I guess we're caught up on the wording of boycott. In the truest sense, that may be not the best word. We all pick and choose everyday what sort of stuff we need and want to buy, and who we are supporting. I tend to call it more of a selective buying. I know some brewery owners who are absolute dicks. I like their beers but tend to not patronage as much as I should. That's where my protest or boycott begins and ends *again maybe not the best of words.

    Onto the beer.

Day 2, much the same as day 1s initial impressions. The fruity aroma does not seem to follow much in the flavor as far as sweetness goes. I agree with @AmeriCanadian. Dry and fairly mellow *which is scary considering it is 7.2%. I have had some 6% pale ales that just drag you through the mud with an overly sweet mouthfeel (and im not talking your NE style beers. Just traditional clearish ales that dont perform as well as what I see here). Second time around, IBU sticking around a bit more. This is just a really citrus forward dry finishing IPA. I dont think its anything like a NE IPA. So as long as you know that, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The beer smells like it wants to be sweet and juicy. But for what I know it is now, it's definitely more in the realm of a west coast IPA. One of the driest I have had in years past was Sculpin. A definite top 10 fresh IPA in any current market place IMHO. Add to that the logistics of getting it to people in less than a week, the price (someone above mentioned a $9.75 four pack, which is unheard of), and the flavor alone, and I don't think they are too far off from what was 2015 batch (I had to look at past check ins to see that I absolutely loved 2015. 2016 was closer to this one. But I dont think this one is a fall off from 2016).

Unlike last year I dont want to give this one a shelf life of more than 6 weeks. The aromas are there, but already at a 2-3 week old bottle from the past. The vibrancy is not quite there this year. If I ever so slightly had to grade them, I would still say 2015 was the most explosive, 2016 following, and this one can be perceived as a failure. But I really don't. For the next 6 weeks, I will have pretty much everything I love out of the citrus forward IPAS.

A definite success in my book

You're obsessing over the definition of a word. They're spending less money to support a company because they aren't psyched on what the company has done than they would otherwise. Worry about what to call it all you want, but it doesn't really matter.

    Enjoy
