Clear as advertised but really tasty/hoppy
    and floral
Def worth a couple bucks per will monitor

The beer world is funny sometimes.

    2016 has a untapped rating of 4.23.
    2017 is 4.17
    2018 is currently 4.45

And yet two person's post in this thread has multiple people disappointed in the beer before trying it.

The power of suggestion is real.

I had this year's on tap this evening. (NorCal here) Loved it. It's everything I like about wet/fresh hop beers. Dank and smooth. Also as another poster referenced, floral due to the Mosaic.

That being said, I think it does taste different than I remember 2016 & 2017 tasting on draught. (And I never thought the bottled version of any year resembled the draught.)

Had it on draft on Monday evening. For my palate and preferences it's the least enjoyed batch thus far. Still a good beer, but had a funkiness to it I didn't care for personally. Will revisit on draft before grabbing a 6er.

FWIW, 2016 is still far in the lead for my preferences.

Perhaps due to batch inconsistency they tweaked their process? (I assume just a process change since some of these recipes seem the same, I think the hops used in '18 are the same as '16)

Maybe they decided to make it more of a traditional "wet hop" ale rather than aim for the juicy New England style? Because brewing that type of beer on such a large scale is problematic?

Then again, Sam Adams appears to do fine with it...

There were over 16,000 ratings in 2016 on Untappd. There's 44 for 2018 right now. I would let the dust settle before making conclusions.

Also, as the beer hangs around and changes, the ratings may get worse. I'm curious what the rating for 2016 were after 44 ratings?

J wakefield - it was all a dream is the 23rd best beer in the world according to BA ratings and has 71 ratings... <roll eyes>

I agree with you 100%... a MUCH larger pool of reviews is needed to determine a quality about a beer. It's why I commented in the first place about multiple BA members being "disappointed" after just 2 BA reviews.

    Cheers

Should've clarified of the three years mentioned. Overall favorite was the first batch in 2014. Cheers

I'm as big of a Lagunitas fan boy as you'll find. This year is just lacking in comparison to 16 and 17.

Just scored a six pack bottled on 10/8 for $12.99. Doesn't get much more fresh than that. Looking forward to trying this tonight then buying more if it's that good.

Had my first bottle last night. Certainly not as earth-moving a beer experience as it was the first time around in 2016 (though I'm not sure how much of that is the beer recipe being meaningfully different and how much is simply the beer world having changed meaningfully, with most APA/IPA drinkers consuming a lot more fresh, pungent, hop-oozing beer on a regular basis -- probably some of both), but it's still a damn fine beer and one I'll continue to look forward to each fall.

I've wondered the same thing. In general, the quality of the IPAs I drink now vs 2016 has improved dramatically. Definitely in terms of freshness, but the amount of hops used has increased a lot as well. I loved that beer, and I'm sure it was actually great. I'm just also sure that "rose-tinted glasses" have something to do with it as well.

My first time with this beer was the original 2014 version; blew my mind, drank about a case. It was 7.3%. When the 2015 version was released, it was 6.5% and much thinner. Then 2016 was closer to 2014. 2017 was back to thin. So with that pattern, even years = better beers:slight_smile:

Still a great FH ale, still 60 IBU's, but seems less pungent this year
(pungent) in a good way than the last couple years...

I get a big minty finish on this beer this year and I don't much care for it. Loved prior years. Absolutely worth a purchase based on the last several years but color me disappointed.

Just poured my first bottle from the 10/8 release. I have a strong palette memory, and the presentation of this year's release is different from previous years. The hop profile is very Citra-forward, and I detect little of the somewhat-offputting oniony notes from years past. It is amazingly juicy and poundably refreshing. Born Yesterday remains an amazing beer...

Wow this thread reminds me of the Nelson one, folks hanging onto a dream or what they remember of it. Just had a bottle born 10/8/18, incredible hop hop hoppy aroma, taste is just a bit lesser, feel is outstanding. This is a no-brainer pickup relative to the cost of every other fresh or wet hop IPA out there.
