It was announced they would have a rooftop garden at their grand opening but it never happened and the news faded away. finally, it's confirmed. Other rumors (prior to grand opening) included a small 'bowling alley'. we'll see if that eventually makes an appearance. Article below. It’s kind of annoying to watch Antiques Roadshow and notice that every third item was made in the Windy City. Meanwhile today we struggle to find something at Target not made in China. So it’s always nice when we can note that a factory in Chicago is doing well enough to expand its operation. That’s what’s happening at the Lagunitas Brewing Company’s facility over in Douglas Park. Lagunitas Brewing Company (via Apple Maps) Lagunitas is the brewer of such suds as The Waldos’ Special Ale, Hairy Eyeball, and Cappuccino Stout (“for that extra krunk.”) OK, so it’s about what you expect from a beer company based in California. But if there’s two things Chicago needs, it’s jobs and beer and jobs. And beer. Lagunitas wants to expand in a number of ways. First, with a new cold storage facility. Second, by putting a second floor on the existing brewery. Third, by expanding its restaurant to handle special events and giving it a roof deck. Here’s the specs: Address: 1701 South Washtenaw Avenue Address: 2601 West 17th Street Developer: Lagunitas Brewing Company Architect: Forza Design & Consulting Maximum height: 79 feet Net side area: 498,175 square feet Floor Area Ratio: 3.0 Parking: 168 auto spaces Parking: 50 bicycle spaces Loading docks: 4 Green roof alert http://www.chicagoarchitecture.org/2016/10/12/factory-expansion-comes-to-a-head-in-douglas-park/
i really enjoy their beer. solid beer, excellent prices. ever since they announced the brewery i was excited. i live walking distance and i'm more of a homer for them now. i really recommend checking them out. they have live music daily (when they're open). great food and all beer is 5 bucks.
Honestly, the only thing that's stopped me so far is that I live up north, so it's more of a trek (and so I just go to the breweries near me). I've been meaning to go since it opened, and have heard nothing but good things.
This has always been my outlook on Lagunitas overall. Nothing great, but probably the best craft beer value around. However, I have noticed their prices increase a bit in the past couple of years, but I chalk it up to markup. I'm in the same boat as SeanBond, living on the NW side, I don't make it down too often. But its a great brewpub to visit and the walking tour is pretty neat-o.
Neighborhood isn't the best but an afternoon trip and/or Uber solves that. It's a completely unique brewery experience based on the massive size and the Wonka-sequel entry. Certainly worth checking out for anyone in the city. Pro tip: within 1.5 miles in Pilsen you can grab lunch (cash only) at Carnitas Uruapan which has been featured on the Food Network and is fantastic.
Interested to see when this is planned to be finished. Would love to check out that garden rooftop in summer.
Yeah, the neighborhood is a bit dicey, but I just take the 10:35 metra on the burlington so it's always in the middle of the day. I can see how it would be a bitch to get to for those on the north side, but for us in the western 'burbs it's a goo way to kill a saturday. My only problem is the train schedule coming back since Western Ave isn't a busy stop: I'm either at lagunitas for an hour and a half or i'm there for 3 hours..I guess that's a good problem to have.
