I had one of these last night. I wasn't expecting the amount of hoppy qualities this one has.

Attended an American Homebrewers Association rally that Lagunitas hosted here in Chicago and DoppelSticky was on tap and was a gift after the rally. Let me say that this was a DANK altbier! It was almost as if I was so engulfed in Lagunitas green culture that I was zoning out and imagining 16 giant new fermenters in front of me.... Oh wait, that was really real!!

Yeah... I mean... I LOVE this beer... sticky sweet and fuit-hoppy as hell... but... stylistically, this ain't at all what it says it is.
    Damn good, though.

Drinking a DoppelSticky right now and I have to say that it is not what I expected. In a good way... Its a sweet, fruity and and somehow hoppy delicious mess of a beer and its delicious! I am not familiar with that style so perhaps someone can fill me in. Is Lagunitas DoppelSticky a good representation of the style?

I would suggest that you read my post (the 6th post to this thread) concerning Uerige "Doppelstickeā€ and decide for yourself.

    Cheers!

I'd say it's a considerably better representation of Lagunitas beers generally than of the arguable "doppelsticke" alt style, but I find that most Lagunitas brews have a signature taste common across their lineup. I'm lucky to like that signature, and I like this DoppelSticky a lot.

I will check out your post JackHorzempa. And bleakies, I am right there with you. Lagunitas has a signature flavor (in house yeast?) across almost their entire lineup and my taste buds approve. Thanks for the replies guys!

Picked up a sixer at WF redwood city. Had a single to try earlier this month and was really impressed. Very rich and creamy mouthfeel and flavor profile is delicious and unique. They still have a few cases, go get some SF peninsula!

Tried this yesterday. While it's a solid beer, I'd say it tastes absolutely nothing like the Uerige Doppelsticke. It's much lighter in color, it smells like New World hops, and it tastes closer to an American style IPA than any altbier (sticke, doppelsticke or otherwise).
I have no problems with the beer and I did enjoy it, but I wouldn't go into this expecting anything altbier'ish at all. My guess is that the only real similarity is that they lagered some of the esters away. I dunno if that really did much in reality, though.

It's a clever name, but I don't really see the point in comparing yourself to a beer (Uerige's) that's far closer to a doppelbock than an IPA.
