I ask this as I just tried it over the last couple of days and fell in love with it. I know it's neither rare nor expensive but at 9.9% I'm wondering if it will improve with age at all.

I'm brand new to cellaring and this would be my first. Any advice would be appreciated.

Stouts age well, alcohol level is definitely high enough. Buy a couple give it a try in six months to a year. If you enjoy it you've found a beer to age. Expensive and rare do not necessarily make for good aging. Post your results.

If you have the space, patience, and a few extra bucks I would do it. I have no experience with that beer specifically but '13 SN Narwhal, which is also a 10% stout, tastes much better at 6 months than it did fresh to me, so it doesn't take long to see results sometimes. Some stouts will be worse after a year but then improve at 2-3 years... it's a very beer-specific thing.

I've personally never aged this (I don't really like it to begin with), but at the price point it's at, it's definitely worth a try. My go to cellaring beers are Third Coast Old Ale, Expedition Stout, and Bigfoot. That not only has to do with how much I enjoy the flavors that I get from these beers, but they are relatively cheap as far as price per ounce is concerned for big beers. If you find that you enjoy what comes of the Lagunitas Imperial Stout, I think you'll enjoy cellaring beer much more so because you'll always be able to count on your nice, cheap go to. If you don't like what comes of it, it won't hurt the pocket book too much.

Thanks, folks. I'll give it a try and post the results in November.
