So...I started off the night with 2 cans of Modus Hooerandi, (good malty IPA BTW). I am now into my first 12oz bottle of Maximum and wow! This beer is fantastic! Maybe it's because I jumped from an "east coast" to "west coast" IPA. This shall be my new standard refrigerator stocked beer. That is all. Good day.
I freakin love that beer. Bang for buck, an amazing year-around IPA that's juicy, hoppy, and relatively easy to find. I really should buy it more often, but there are so many great things coming out all the time. Speaking of Lagunitas, Sucks should be coming out soon...
It has been awhile since I've bought Maximus as it is regularly suspect of being very old at my regular stops. I do think the Born Yesterday they did early this month might be my beer-of-the-year, it was utterly splendid!
Maximus has been in my top 5 most purchased beers for 3 years running. Freshness has definitely been a problem with this one in the past, but with more people buying craft beer in general, finding a fresh six pack has become a much more common occurance
Yeah, I do see the 32oz bottles from time to time. But whenever I find them, they are 6 months+ since bottling date. I still see some Jan 2014 and Dec 2013 bottling dates. At this point, I've given up looking for fresh 32 oz bottles of Sucks.
That was the same problem I ran into when the 32 oz. bottles FINALLY landed in OC. I didn't even know about their dating system at first so I bought two unknowingly and they were not good. Since then though, I know to check the dates and have found some fresh bottles at Whole Foods a couple of weeks ago.
Wait until you get your hands on some Hop Stoopid, that might be the best hoppy bang for your buck in bombers.
I usually buy some to take home whenever I'm at the brewery, which happens 3-4 times a year, just to make sure it's super fresh, but I should probably buy it more. So many beers, so little time, it's easy to under-rate the stuff that's always available.
