Semi-related but Lagunitas is releasing the IPA in 19.2 oz cans, another trend I am a fan of because they are decently priced in my area usually, good for a quick grab and go and just enough beer for a sitting.

98 cals? Say you want a six pack watching the game(s), that's 588 calories. Not great, but it beats the ~1000 calories you would ingest with another beer

Great news. Lagunitas IPA doesn't get a ton of love here but man, I gotta say, there is something "classic" about it that makes it a timeless classic to me (not unlike SNPA). For me it's sort of a tie between Lagunitas IPA and Harpoon IPA as the "father of American IPAs (IMO of course, I'm sure I'll get blasted by those older folks who were lucky enough to enjoy Ballantine IPA in its heyday).

Exactly. 588 calories for crushing a six pack (something I rarely, rarely do) is actually very reasonable for a "craft beer". Try curshing six IPAs...190 cals for Lagunitas IPA x 6 = 1140 cals or if you want a bit more hops (like all of us do) let's say SN Torpedo IPA @ 236 cals x 6 = 1416 cals. It's not even close, really.

Regardless, if you're counting calories in hopes of losing weight whilst still drinking 6 beers a day then you're absolutely doing it all wrong.

EDIT: also, 588 calories is great when you consider the flavor. Would you rather have that donkey piss Michelob Ultra @ 95 calories per unit (570 per 6) or would you rather take on the measly 18 calories for a far superior beer?

That's true, and I think New Dogtown fits comfortably within existing style categories such as a pale ale. But at the same time I wonder if some of the people seeking out these Brut IPAs are overlooking some of the pale ales that are out there, if they are looking for a dry beer after drinking lots of high gravity IPAs. Then again they might find the pale ales out there to have outdated hop profiles which aren't pungent enough, so their only recourse are these modern Brut IPAs. And of course they may want the modern hops but can live without the sweetness and bitterness of regular IPAs and DIPAs. I could see there existing an audience for such a flavor profile, even if I myself feel like APAs are still satisfying.

I would like to hear your thoughts when you have a chance to try it.

I completely agree. I rarely drink Lagunitas IPA but I had one recently and it was quite good, a very nicely balanced IPA that does a lot well...for the price in my area I should drink it more often.

You may be on to something here. This discussion inspired me to try a Dogtown and I found some super fresh, dry as hell and quite enjoyable and did remind me of SN Brut in some ways but with maybe a bit more body.

Lagunitas IPA on tap is always a good option, but in the bottle, it's Russian roulette.

Why? I find them pretty darn consistent, assuming that we’re comparing bottles of similar freshness.

So Super Cluster in year round! Great beer, preferred it to Born Yesterday.

Me too. Now down to 4%--a perfect fishin' beer!

I don't think All Day IPA became Founders biggest seller of former Bud /Bud light drinkers but "craft beer" folks looking for a bite on the low side. Other folks taking seem to be taking notice--not new but "rebooting."

I think you’re missing the point. Super Cluster is tasty indeed, but it’s also 200+ calories and 8% ABV.

Daytime might be worth a shot if I can find it fresh at my local beer store for less than $9 / 6 pack. lOtherwise it’s a hard pass.

Bought a 6 pack of this the other day. The aroma on this is great. Hops burst from the can. The hops arent as present in the taste but they are definitely there. Overall pretty impressed with this, being it's only 4 percent. Does it taste light? Yes, but there is still a good amount of flavor and the hops are present. Will be buying more.

Ha, well I technically already had one, but it was the last beer of a long session, so my palate and memory weren't in the best of shape.

Which was kind of the idea in buying it, when you're at the end of a session, a 4% beer in a 12 oz. can is perfect.

An 8% New England IPA in a 16 oz. can is not.

    I prefer Imperial Russian roulette.

Yes! More 4% beers in 12 oz. cans!

It just came out I believe, so finding it fresh shouldn't be an issue.

As far as price, I don't think in Boston we have ANY six packs under $9...

From the above linked article in the OP:

"Or so I thought. Turns out, Lagunitas makes a kickass IPA that’s only 98 calories. DayTime IPA isn’t a new beer, but the recipe has evolved over the years, and now Lagunitas is releasing it in cans for the first time."

So, if folks are looking for fresh product they need to purchase Daytime in cans.

I would be willing to bet there is still plenty of Daytime in bottle sitting on shelves.

    Cheers!
