I agree it might be nearly impossible but once you get the perfect angle down pat, it's not a problem. Besides, there are plenty of other brewers that do the same thing so the same perfect angle works with all of them.
Yes, it would great if all brewers clearly printed the date right on a corner of the label in bold black ink but they don't so you might have to do a little extra looking once in a while.

Simcoe, Apollo, Summit, Chinook, Nugget and HBC342 - cited from HBT.

I had also heard somewhere that Daytime was not happening for most larger markets this summer due to some of the key hops for that being used to make extra batches of Sucks back in the spring.

There was also something earlier this year from one of the Lagunitas guys on the progress on the glass being slow-ish (that may have since been resolved.)

Yeah - I'm good through March - but figuring out what translates August makes my head hurt a bit (I used to keep a spreadsheet on my phone for this.)

OK, straight from the horse's mouth. Here's when we can expect Sucks and Daytime:

Just met with lagunitas reps at work yesterday. Sucks 32oz and Daytime 6pks are both going to be year round, but they are going to each start in test markets. The Sucks 32 in Nor Cal, and the Daytime 6pks in San Diego. Later in the year was the only ETA I got.

I started this whole craft beer drinking/collecting last October and picked this up on a whim. Of course I fell in love with it and was amazed that it sat on the shelves for as long as it did. With it success, I doubt it will sit around this year, but I can hope.

I just sent an email to them asking when we will see Sucks yesterday. Haven't responded yet but soon I hope. There is a store in Vancouver, Wa that has some but it is 6 months old so there it sits on the shelf. I got excited at first then saw the date. Oh well.

If Lagunitas reps are reading this I am signing my name to the "bring back Sucks soon" petition.

For some reason, I have a much harder time with Lagunitas than any other brewer. Maybe I'm defective. Though, a switch to yellow ink wouldn't be all that hard either....

I have problems with the black ink on the bottle neck or shoulder also and you're correct - yellow ink would be better and not that much harder. But... unless people complain directly to the brewery, they're not going to know how many people have a problem with the dates.

I just took this picture of the neck of a bottle of Sucks (which I am now drinking). After reading the above posts, I have no idea what the actual date is, but I can tell you that it is still a damn good beer! I know a lot of you are thinking that this should already have been consumed, but I stocked the beer fridge with every Sucks I could find in Knoxville! Only have a couple of sixers left :-( [IMG]

in this case, only the first three digits matter. 037 = 37th day of year ~ February 6. no number corresponding to year on the old codes.

Sometime in the last couple months they switched to a simpler Julian code.
This is from a bottle of Lagunitas Pils that just got delivered to the store I work at yesterday.

they've kindly separated the useful and useless (at least to consumers) info into two separate lines and also added a number corresponding to the year.

So the top line translates to 173 = 173rd day of year ~ June 22 and 3 = 2013 (last digit of year).
I'm not sure exactly when they switched it up, I think it was around April that I remember starting to see the new date codes.

I bought 2 cases 3 months ago (Total Wine Goodyear, AZ) while under the impression they were the last.. knowing they would no longer be available and seasonal. However, I still see it available always on the shelf. Awesome beer!

Thanks for clearing that up. And thank you Lagunitas for making it a bit easier for the future.

    Bring on some fresh Sucks!!

I drank ALL of the Sucks in Casper. Don't believe me? There's none on the shelves now.
