Any special reason why they can't just put a regular (as in not julian) date on the bottle like any decent brewery would? I mean, unless there's an angle in this that I'm not seeing, it doesn't seem like it would be more difficult to do. Can anyone shed some light on why Lagunitas and other breweries choose to go this route?

Sierra Nevada has said something to the effect of, and I'm paraphrasing here...
"Julian date works best for us, and date is not that important to consumers because we have a super-duper awesome bottling line."

They may only have so many digits available on their inkjet program so not enough room for xx/xx/xx. I'm sure the rest of the numbers are there for a reason like batch number, operator etc.

Yup, sure its old too. Old beer lives in PA. The distribution system sucks. I found cases of double trouble last winter that showed up after not being there the week before. GF west coast ipa over a year old etc etc.

    Enjoy

Anybody seeing any of this anywhere? Last time they had this at the local shop, I started to buy a few six packs, but the guy there told me that wasn't necessary as it was year round and they would get additional shipments. well they haven't had any for months. every time i ask they assure me it is year round, but the distributor hasn't gotten any. anybody else having this same problem? I love this stuff and can't wait to get more...

That shop employee was wrong. It's a winter seasonal. I frickin' love it & wish it was year-round, too.

I have read that Lagunitas is waiting for the proper hops before they come out with it again. I can't remember where...

i've heard that it was seasonal, but will be year round as of this year. BA profile even lists it as year round now

I'd say just be patient. I can still grab it at a few obscure places but it's almost 6 months out now, you might as well wait for the next batch in the winter
