I went ape-shit over this beer last year. This year ... not so much. Still decent but the ethanol is poking through more than I would prefer.

I agree. Pretty great for being a 12% IPA, but I would almost prefer a bigger malt presence to help cover the booze. Or tone it down to 9.5-10% where it used to be. Still, I can't complain. It is still really good and the price is unbeaten.

Waldo's is a fantastic beer, IMHO. Lagunitas rocks.

I was able to score 2 6 packs for $9.99 with the dollar coupon. Could have got more but 12 bottles is more than enough. Pretty ridiculous.

But then the hop aroma/flavor will fade, won't it?

    Cheers!

I'm enjoying them yet again this year. Just picked up a 3rd 6-pack (mostly because the Target 5 minutes away priced them at $8.99 and I want to share some with friends). Not a balanced IPA by any means, but since when is Lagunitas about balance? Floral nose, spicy fresh hop bite, sweet without being thick on the tongue. After two I get a warm fuzzy feeling, without any alcohol burn.

I was absolutely blown away by this year's Waldos'. I thought it was very well balanced, with plenty of malt presence to complement the insane dank hoppiness. I also thought the ABV was extremely well hidden. I mean, it's undeniably there, but this drinks more like a borderline DIPA than a full-blown behemoth. I rarely drink more than one beer a day, but it was really difficult to stop after only one of these. One of my three favorite DIPA's (with King Sue and Hopslam!) and much less expensive than anything in its class. We've seen plenty of it here at $10.99 a sixer, making it unquestionably one of the best values in craft beer today.

I missed out on last years, but thought this years was solid. When first poured the malt hides the alcohol very well, but by the end of the glass it was giving just a slight alcohol warmth that was nice. Hops were dank, pine and some citrus and were just enough to let you know it was a dipa. Will buy more if I come across some.
