Drank a 2017 KBS next to a 2017 High Westified just now and I'll take the High Westified every time. I can't wait to try this Willett version!

I'm in the same boat. Is there any sign of this (High West) seeing distribution close to Michigan? It's a great beer and would love to know if I'm spinning my wheels looking for it.

I did the same thing, only blind. It was very hard to tell them apart. I still preferred kbs though maybe just because I know it so well and maybe I was looking for it. My friend preferred high westified. My only thought was that I may be drinking more westified since it is less that half the price and I was lucky enough to get a good stock of it. Cheers!

I compared High Westified to '16 KBS back sometime probably in December, and it wasn't close. Definitely preferred KBS. *BUT*, given the price, I still consider High West an awesome beer, and preferring KBS doesn't mean I don't love it on its own.

Also, I've only had one '17 KBS, but I thought it wasn't nearly as good as last year. However, it could have just been an off day for my palette, or any number of other reasons other than the beer being any different. Just thought it was way more boozy and less coffee tasting than the handful of '16 KBS bottles I've gone through over the last year.

I've drank through probably 10-12 or so '17 KBS so far - relatively evenly distributed since release. They have varied wildly in taste for me. The only thing that hasn't changed is that they tend to be more "smooth" as time progresses, and the closer to the bottom of the bottle I get, the less discerning my pallet becomes. KBS, unlike some others, tends to really just wreak havoc on my palette. Not sure precisely why that is.

I have 1 High West in my fridge thanks to a great BA. Drinking it soon. It will only be my second. On my first pass I don't remember it being really anything like KBS. (I recalled likely the flavors of KBS more but the barrel more in High Westified). These posts have really made me excited to revisit it.

High west and kbs taste nothing alike IMO. Kbs is all chocolate with a mild earthy bitterness and prominent coffee, the barrel overall is not in your face. High west is very light on the chocolate and much heavier on the barrel with a predominant rye spicyness. I get next to no coffee in high west and overall less bitterness than kbs as it finishes. Kbs is definitely a touch bigger in the mouthfeel too.

Having said all that I still prefer high west by just a touch probably because I love all things rye. Or maybe I'm just cheap?

I opened my second bottle on Saturday night. The first I opened in late April or Early March. Comparatively, the coffee was gone altogether. The Rye spiceyness was more foreword (which is less my jam). A bit dissapointed I waited so long.

Still no sightings in Colorado? Its funny that trucks probably drive through our state with shipments of this beer to other states east of California... we always seem to get Lagunitas stuff way late.

Damn...That just made me kinda sad. I checked their site about a month ago and it showed 12oz bottles to. Hopefully they do end up bottling it.

Yah that's just their imperial stout in willet barrels. The new one will be the coffee stout.

Ah...Goddamn there's at least 4 beers we're taking about in this thread. I need to pay closer attention, can't keep it straight!

Yep and the coffee stout will be in rye barrels not bourbon.

This thread has seen little activity as of late. Has there been any more sightings of it?

I'm still hoping some of this extra High Westified makes it's way to SE Michigan.

It has not come to Indy, or if it has, it did not go to some of the largest stores, or if it did (hehehehe), it wasn't put out.

Bump... haven’t seen this in any of the states I have been to in the last 2 months (Illinois, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, missiouri, Louisiana). Anyone have updates?

It has not been released yet as far as I know. I think someone mentioned earlier that High Westified was first bottles in early Dec last year, so assuming a similar bottling time frame, we still have a few weeks before it should be showing up even in california.
