Pretty sure they are both coffee stouts...

Well, yeah. Except they take the coffee stout, then age it in barrels so all detectable (to me, anyway) coffee flavor fades by the time they take it out. Most BA coffee stouts I believe have coffee added during the barrel aging process or after.

I largely agree with your assessment, Brent. I was wondering whether it was me with regards to High Westified. I perceived more coffee in this version, but joked that it was still "backgrounded." Terrific beer, though. Again, especially for the price.

I mean, from what I've read, coffee and vanilla are the two adjuncts that fade the quickest, so most/all of the time I try to drink stouts with them sooner rather than later. So it seems a little counterproductive to use a coffee stout as input to the barrels rather than adding the coffee towards the end, if getting a noticeable coffee flavor in the end result is desired (and with "coffee" being the biggest word on the label, you'd think it would be). I'm guessing if they started with their regular imperial stout, it'd be pretty near identical.

I see what you mean. But then again a barrel aged beer is supposed to be just that... barrel aged. You could argue that we are looking for barrel character first and adjuncts second. Otherwise we'd be just as happy with Cappuccino Stout and call it a day.

I got a case of High Westified last year and agree that, even fresh, the coffee was way, way in the background. Still a delicious beer for a fantastic price, but hardly an example of a robust coffee stout. I've had two-year old Sunday Morning Stouts (another well-priced BBA beer) that had more coffee profile than a relatively fresh High Westified.

None of the means I'm not gonna grab this new one as soon as I see it. Again, High Westified was great.

Supply and demand I guess, dense beer nerd population in minneapolis
So many stores are doing one 1-2 bottle limits on it as CBS and noirs sit there with no limits...

Just came into the store today. Looking forward to cracking one open after work tonight. But yes it does sound as if people are being ripped off here in my state. We had to price it $15.99 6pk, $3.99 btl. Cost was higher then we expected not sure why we are getting the short end of the pricing stick.

$10.99 in Canada and $15.99 in Minnesota . . . who decides the price here? Is it the distributor?

The only store I’m aware of selling sixers was total wine, all local stores were 1-2 bottle limits. Money grab breaking down a 6pack and now you’re getting $18-24 for it.

For those who like video reviews on YouTube, Baby Face Beer Reviews just posted his review of this beer. Sounds interesting!

I haven't seen any in southern CA yet, I'm hoping to pick up at least a six-pack to try it and more because of the price point.

I just picked up a sixer of this at my local Total Wine (11.99 Roseville). I chose this over the BA Ten Fidy and BA V@S. Price wise it was a no brainer, hopefully I made the right choice.
