Curious if anyone has a suggestion on breweries near the Lake Oconee, GA area. There is one brewery here as far as I can tell (Lake Oconee Brewery). Who has the best beer and atmosphere? Dog friendly?How about nearby Athens? Had Creature Comforts Tropicale and it is excellent. Never been to Creature Comforts or Lake Oconee Breweries.
Creature Comforts is excellent. I'd say your best bet is to go into Athens to there, and to Terrapin. Not really my area, but i've had good beers from both! I'll leave it to GA locals to provide further insight.
I'd make the trip to Athens. Can visit Creature Comforts, Southern Brewing, Akademia, and Terrapin. Dogs are only allowed in certain areas, know Creature and Southern have outdoor areas where dogs are welcome. Depending on time frame of your visit, a new nano brewery should be opening March/April time frame (Normaltown Brewing).
I agree with heading into Athens and hitting all the breweries mentioned above. That being said, the brewer at Lake Oconee brewing was there serving beer last time I went. It is always nice to be able to talk beer with the actual brewer. They have a really cool space and the beer is good.
