Is the "Organic" version that was released this Winter a different recipe that prior versions? I had this (the 2014 version) last night for the first time and was very impressed. It's classified as an American Barleywine, but I got more English Barleywine notes on this, which I loved. Only a slight bitterness on the finish from the hops. I see the overall rating on this isn't so great at 82, which I feel is way too low. I would rate this a 93 or so. If the recipe is indeed different in the 2014 release, I wonder if the "older" recipe is what has dragged the ratings down? Probably one of my favorite Lakefront beers I've had. Others thoughts on this beer?
Also, at $9.99/4pk, this is a great value beer. I'm gonna pick a few more up and cellar them, as I'm sure they will age beautifully!
sure hope so. i've got a 10th anniversary bottle in my basement that i've just never picked out to drink.
Thanks for the info. There really should be a new entry for this recipe on Beer Advocate. It's so good.
@BottleCaps80 thanks for reminding me about this beer and letting me know how much you enjoyed it. I think it will really shine after a bit of age. Seemed a bit harsh for me and I think it will smooth out over time.
