Are you suggesting gueuze and lambics are faddish? Other than American experiencing an increased awareness of the styles, there really is nothing faddish about it.

Wasn't there a big discussion started by you calling something else a fad in another thread a while back? I just do not think I am ever going to agree with anything you have to say about "fads".

    You're missing the second "u".

Why exactly are they a fad? What is your opinion based off of?

I said nothing about taking away your right to an opinion, I was simply posting an opposing opinion and obviously I did not get the BGrider seal of approval.

    Fad:
    1. a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., especially one followed enthusiastically by a group.

Belgium has brewed Lambic and gueuze for hundreds of years... It's simply catching on stateside.
The popularity rise might be reminiscent of fad-like growth, but sours are not a 'fad.' You seem to simply have chosen the incorrect word for the situation.

Kzoobrew is right, it's not a fad.

I guess it's been a fad over here since this show aired in about 1989:

Then again, how can you not get all caught up in the allure of the style after watching that? This was before Lindeman's took a nosedive, too- those beers were really good once (especially the Peche, believe it or not). Too bad that people try them now and don't get a true representation of how complex Lambics can be (which is what I suspect happened with the OP).

I could believe it. I still actually enjoy the cuvée Renee and I will pick up a Cassis fom time to time!
Armand (from 3F) has stated that he thinks Lindemans brews some of the best unblended Lambic (from his standpoint of being a blender)

well i figure i'll start a gueze/lambic charity since everyone here who is hating on OP seems to have easy access to them. so i'll begin accepting all cantillon's, 3f oude gueze, 3f golden blend, vintage and since i'm such a gracious recipient i will also accept all russian river american wild ales including but not limited to supplication, consecration, sanctification and beatification. also sang noir and any cascade sour. your all so generous, in gueze we trust!

Honestly, in order to truly appreciate them and oddly save money.............buy a planet ticket to Belgium. The best of the best of lambic/gueuze is like water over there, and costs about the same.

    Yeah.
Especially right now because he lost 3-4 years worth of stuff when the thermostat malfunction thing happened.
    And then Armand blends them.

Juice is what should be happening the day after. Nothing like a good case of the gueuze guts. The good shit liquifies and/or implodes your insides if you are doing it right.

    MATT DAMON!

PS-- I always read your name as the present progressive tense form of the verb 'to lambic'
like-- I can't write the paper now, I'm busy lambicking!
