I'm wondering if Nuremberg gets any 3F or Cantillon that I could hunt down in Nuremberg.

    Always appreciate other recommendations!

    No. There won't be any.

Go to Landbierparadies, either the pub or the store near the Hauptbahnhof, and got some great, local franconian beer.

    +1 to this ^

Also, like the avatar. Erbling and Auxerrois are wines not many know about but are great wines! Use them all the time for cooking and weeknight dinners.

While not quite as extreme, asking about lambics in Nuremberg is like asking for Heady Topper in San Diego.

A better parallel would be like asking for Zoigl (or, less elitist: unfiltered Kellerbier) in Brussels. Blank stares why you would even drink that. Along with yankee assumptions about the EU not being quite that homogenised playing ground for beer yet.

I will save the title of this thread come the year 2050 and beer disneyfication is a fait accompli in the EU.

You should be able to get Cantillon (Gueze only) soon in the Bierothek. (Äußere Laufer G. 6, 90403 Nürnberg) I know someone who works there and it has been ordered and should be there in a few weeks. Probably very limited supply and very expensive. You could always order from http://www.wein-kreis.de/. Only 8 euro a bottle for Geuze plus postage to Germany.

Dranken Geers in Gent has it. If you live in these places (like I do) and want to have something different every so often then this is a legitimate question.

Sure. But I still find it very annoying when international beer lovers aren't interested in the native beer scene at all and only want internationally known "whalez". Imagine a US user would ask here for Schlenkerla in Brussels and wouldn't react to dozens of other suggestions pointing me to Cantillon,3F etc... Would annoy me as well. Some places in europe, and I'll surely count franconia as one, have a great, deeply rooted local beer tradition. Ignoring that and only aiming for something which is known internationally and has nothing to do with the region seems ignorant, to say the least.

They wouldn't do that though, because you can trivially get Schlenkerla in the US (in fact I find it's easier to get many good German beers in the US than it is in other parts of Germany). While that's not to say there's never anything worth searching out when visiting locally, I certainly don't blame people for being interested in obtaining hard to find beer when they find themselves anywhere near its source.

I think you're reading way more into what was a very simple question. I live in Bamberg but I don't want to drink Schlenkerla every day even though I love it and lots of other local beers. Sometimes I'd like a Cantillon.. or Duvel or Pliny or.......

I'm aware of that, it was a hypothetical example to show how absurd it is to go to the heartland of a very cool brewing tradition and look for something completely different......its like asking for Loire Wines or Barolos when travelling to the Mosel region  And I don't blame them for trying to get them, I blame them for not paying attention to what else goes on there.

I lived for seven years in franconia and well, from time to time, yes a Duvel or La chouffe was nice, but with so much variety right in front of my front door, I didn't really crave for it.
That being sad, I'm still annoyed by the hype cantillon is getting these days and the question which pops up in the europe forums all the time: "where can I get cantillon/3F in berlin/paris/milan/prague/cologne......." Sry but I don't think I am reading too much into it. To all answers aimed at traditional franconian beer, the OP did not react..
