Perhaps they're not interested. Everybody has their own preferences. Maybe they're from experience, maybe they're from ignorance of what's available - but the preferences remain. Doesn't hurt to suggest trying something local, but I don't think it's worth getting bent out of shape if they don't bite.

Well, as an adovcate and lover of franconian beer culture, it feels almost offensive.Sorry to say so.

Pretty sure I saw Schlenkerla at Delirium Cafe last summer
I definitely understand the desire to grab bottles of something unusual in your travels. Plus, geographically, Franconia isn't that far from Brussels compared to distances over here in the US. On the other hand, culturally, they're pretty far apart.
Maybe not too far off, though. I know for a fact that Armand De Belder of Drie Fonteinen has a thing for Franconian lagers. Outside of some transplants (I know of at least one), I dunno if that goes both ways in Nuremberg, though.

That's probably the thing, culturally, esp. regarding culinary culture, they seem to be from parallel universes.
While awareness for non-native beers all over germany is rising, it is still something very different to sit in a belgian biercafe or a franconian Wirtshaus. And those differences should be appreciated.

I'd heard it for years (hence their Beersel lagers) and his wife confirmed it. While he has a passion for lambic, his day to day beers are country lagers. I brought them a Crooked Stave Persica and they were less than enthused :stuck_out_tongue: I think if I'd brought something from Mahr's or Faessla it would have gone over 10x better.

Bringing Mr De Belder a Gänstaller Bier or two, another master of the craft to make the most of tradition (and to use a coolship!), might settle this US-inspired virtual rivalry between Franken und Flandern/Bxl. Brewers of their skill and talent tend to have an old school (dare I say Old World?) instinct for consummate brewing in accord with time that transcends the geeky categories many of us beer culture 2.0 postmodernists have come to drink by.

A number of different beers are available at Maisel's & Friends in Bayreuth.

Their beer list is rather impressive - including Cantilon. Meh - we visited Cantilon's brewery in 2014. Their facility is far more interesting than their beers, in my opinion. There are 100s more better & tastier examples of Belgian beers than 3F.

They had Cantillon and Mort Subite at a craft beer pub called Mr Kennedy last time I was there. Either way, if you are in Nuremberg, it is a great place to check out. It's on Hintere Sterngasse 29, so quite close to the train station to boot.
