My wife is heading to Lansing Michigan on business and She wants to stop and pick me up some beer. I never have been to Michigan, is it cases only or can you buy single bottles? Also I live in NJ so I'm looking for stuff I can't get here like bells, kuhnhenn, new Belgium, some GI that I can't get here, or any suggestions you give. She will be at the MBI so any store close to that would be great. Thanks!
You can get singles in Michigan - PA is the only goofy state that I know of that has that stupid case law. Oadies Big 10 party store is just up the freeway from that place. It has a pretty decent selection. Here's the directions: http://goo.gl/maps/2CkgZ
At the NW intersection of Trowbridge & Harrison is Goodrich Food Center (it's on the map that surlytheduff linked above) which also has a good selection (and maybe slightly better prices), although not many singles. Oades Big 10 has a huge selection of singles in the cooler, plus anything from the 6-packs on the shelves is okay to grab as a single too. Is she flying? How much can she purchase? The breweries that you named have so many styles available that it would be helpful to know your preference for us to recommend selections. Take a look at the BA pages for the breweries you named, plus consider looking at Short's. They make some remarkable beers that tend toward unusual in some. It is highly unlikely that she will find any Kuhnhenn, so just tell her if she sees anything from them to grab it.
Oskar blues just became available, not sure if that's in NJ. Greenbush is also newly in distro throughout michigan. (Brother Benjamin is a killer IIPA) Bells Smitten rye ale is new. curmudgeon old ale from founders just came out somewhat recently. Kuhnhenn is really hard to find in bottles. You rearly see it anywhere and I've never seen anything from th in Lansing. You can find new Belgium in pretty much any store. Horrocks is my favorite shop in town. Both because o the beer and all the other stuff there.
