Large Format Bottles, are they really necessary?

    Love 'em.

I'm at the point in my beer drinking "career" now that I pretty much always reach for a large format bottle, no matter the occasion. I'm almost at the point that I won't even bother buying a beer if it's in a 12oz / 33cl bottle.

The Dutch breweries that use the odd 75cl or 22oz bottle are always very honest with their pricing structure, so I wish more breweries here would move to that format.

Given the number of people out there who insist on buying 22 oz size bottles when they have a choice between a single 22 oz bottle or a 4 pack (or 6 pack) of 12 oz bottles, it would seem they are. And if a brewery makes more money per oz with a bomber size bottle, why should they fight popular demand... :-)

I love the fact that great craft beers are sold in large bottles for more money. If i go to my local haunts I have to pay $6-$10 in a 10 oz draft when I would much rather have them in a pint.

Because breweries know that you geeks will justify $5 for a 22oz so you can tick an amber ale.
$17.50 for a six pack of the same beer and all but the most hardcore tickers would pass.

What about Bourbon County, Russian River sours, Lost Abbey, the Westy's, Central Waters, Black Note, and KBS? Some of those are priced more reasonably than others, but last time I checked none of them had an issue of becoming a shelf turd...

22 oz bombers arent so bad its those "Euro bombers" or whatever they are called that are even smaller that suck.
