What's the scoop with these? I recall seeing photos on facebook before I deleted my account, but was curious if these were ever sold or if they ever put something other than Classic Gueuze in the large formats (St. Gilloise?).
A few months ago they released about 30 1.5L (magnum) bottles and 17 bottles of 3L (jeroboam) bottles of Cuvée Saint Gilloise, only for season ticket holder of Jean's favourite football team. Those were all gone pretty fast. Now they're selling magnum bottles of the regular Gueuze. The bottles they're selling at the moment are the first batch (500 bottles) of the magnums they started remaking (apparantly they used to make these occassionaly back in the days). The bottle limit is 1 per person. In a few months, they'll probably start selling more magnums of the regular Gueuze.
FYI, looks like the magnums are either sold out or will be sold out extremely soon. There were a very small amount remaining, as of this morning (probably less than 10).
Hopefully they experiment with larger bottle sizes and filling them with a variety of different beers. I used to think that the larger format bottles (1.5L+) were somewhat superfluous but after acquiring some, I really enjoy them, always fun at events and parties.
They are great! They opened up already a 6L and a 9L bottle of their gueuze, and the taste is just so much smoother in those large format bottles. Those magnums will age so good as well!
I stopped by today. As of now everything is sold out except Kriek, Geueze, Rose, Iris, St Gilloise and possibly the magnums... but they couldnt find some in back and gave me the one off the shelf. So the Magnums are either sold out or damn near sold out.
I didn't see any of the Magnums at Quintessence, but I am sure if they had any they would be gone after the crowds.
I have seen other varieties on the site. Such as Lou Pepe's and others. But they sell out VERY fast when they are posted up.
