Late Addition Hops

    I've come across quite a few examples of hops used in the boil in one beer being used in another brew. Dry hops couldn't be reused because they were usually added to the trade cask (the one being sent out to pubs) at racking time.

    When British breweries were rally heavily hopping their beers, they also worried about wort retained by the hops. There were two solutions: a hop sparge or pressing the hops to squeeze out the wort.

    The one I made is similar in concept to this:

    The size of the mouth doesn't make much difference, but the size of the bag that contains the hops does. The bigger the bag, the more the hops can be free-range chickens. I add a couple stainless washers to the bag and adjust how far it sits in the kettle so it doesn't touch bottom.

    Yes. Some of the finer particles get through but not enough to be a nuisance and certainly not enough to clog anything. The mesh is similar to the capped cylindrical ones people use for dry-hopping in fermenters/kegs.
