Has anyone run into this before or know why this happens?

I drop off boxes at my office's FedEx dropbox all the time instead of a physical location. Sometimes, not all the time, the tracking doesn't update until the package is delivered. What's weird is that the tracking code will split into two transactions once it is delivered.

Here is an example of that transaction split

It just sucks because it makes it look like I haven't shipped the box yet. Is that just a side effect of a dropbox?

Looks like it gets picked up by FedEx Ground and transferred to and delivered by FedEx Express. Are you putting your FedEx Express packages in FedEx Ground dropboxes or vice versa?

That's interesting. I'll need to check the box to see what it says. I typically just ship ground.

Based on what I can see from the tracking info, there were scans performed by both Ground and Express which is unusual for a dropbox. Seems like the final scans, including delivery, were performed by Express.

I called FedEx and they said that if you select "Home Delivery" and use a dropbox, that it will slow things down and cause them not to be able to track until delivery. So weird. You'd think a company would be able to track any of their packages no matter where it came from. Lesson learned. Either go to a location or don't pick home delivery if I use the box.

Yeah I always drop at a FedEx facility that handles both Ground and Express. I can see if you're trying to use Ground and drop off at a FedEx Express box that it would cause some screw ups. Makes sense actually how their system is laid out from what I've experienced.

Update here. FedEx says they lost my package and asked me to file a claim. I hate to be so untrusting, but I think it was taken when they realized it wouldn't get tracked in the system. Lesson learned. Physical locations from now on. Luckily I have multiples of what I sent out except for one bottle than can be replaced by a friend.

It sucks that someone would take advantage of the situation like that. Sorry brother!

Another helpful tip. Print 2 labels. Keep one print at the top of the box. Tape the other to the box. In case the label comes off they open the box and find a label and don't need to rummage through your box.
