In less than 48 hours, I go to Spokane for another 48, staying at the Davenport. When I was there for a brief stint two years ago, Iron Goat was the place to go, or so I was told. I enjoyed it. It was a long walk, but avoiding driving is paramount, and again, I'm at the whim of other co-workers in my group.

Is Iron Goat still the go-to? Any better - and/or other - places I should have on my radar? I might a couple non-beer folk in my party, so open-minded options are welcome, too.

A future thanks to any who oblige!

Couple of other options a little closer to the Davenport:

    - Whistle Punk Brewing, cool space with a wide variety of solid beers plus a cider tap and some wine, food available from Heritage Kitchen next door: https://www.facebook.com/whistlepunkbeer/

    - The Steel Barrel, couple dozen beers on tap (from three house breweries and several guest handles), lotsa specialty cocktails plus cider and wine, adjoining ceviche bar: https://www.facebook.com/thesteelbarrel/

Whoops. Did a bit of late night beering on Sunday and much of yesterday was spent discussing via phone with family my aunt's hospitalization and near-certain impending death (she passed away around midnight), so I didn't see this until now.
Iron Goat is still worth checking out, but so's Perry St (not near the Davenport but certainly Uber-able) and Whistle Punk's tap room (quite close to the Davenport for someone on foot). Steel Barrel is in between the two, a nano-brewery incubator space, with beers from their tennants the highlight but also having a number of guest beers on tap.
I'm at work right now but I'll be back with a little more info later.

Was there for a week in December. Iron Goat is awesome and I'd highly recommend it.

I also highly recommend the Blackbird, which is a little closer. Great food, great taplist.

Community pint was an awesome spot as well.

Yes, Blackbird is no more, although their onetime sister establishment, Manito Tap House, is still around, albeit under different management.

    Community Pint is awesome,.btw.

Right now (well, as of Friday, anyway), Perry St. has a new IPA on, NZ Squeezy, brewed with Wai-Iti hops, that's quite tasty, plus the IPL they won gold with at GABF a couple yrs ago.

Haven't hit WP for a bit but they're always quality. They have an ongoing series of fruit milkshaky IPA ish beers that are generally modelled on sorbets, plus they always seem to have some very tasty IPAs and saisons on.

Thanks. It wasn't unexpected. Plus, at 85, she'd had a good run.

Oh, and Iron Goat is having their anniversary party on Saturday if you're still in town. Word is they're going to unveil the first of their Goatworks line of barrel aged wild ales, to be sold exclusively at the brewery in 750mLs. They're putting a foeder (maybe they already have) on the roof to cultivate wild yeasts from there. I just hope no derelicts climb up there and, uh, re-purpose it.

Iron Goat anniversary party is showing as June 8 on Facebook, but they are releasing the first Goatworks beer Saturday, a Southern Hemisphere Brett IPA - there's an event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes a $6 taster combo of that and the next one coming up, Brett d'Or du Claret ("a mixed fermentation beer which is a blend of four year old and two year old golden ales fermented in Barrister Winery Merlot and Cab Franc barrels with Barrister crushed wine grapes").

With my oldest at Gonzaga, I always looked forward to stopping in a Blackbird when I swing over to see him. This news bums me out. While the tap and bottle lists were very good, the restaurant could never seem to settle on a character and that must have hurt them.

I'm assuming that you're staying at the Historic Davenport - there are 4 Davenport hotels in Spokane. If correct, the bar/restaurant at the Davenport Lusso (across the street from the Historic) called the Post Street Ale House is decent. It's not great but I've always found more than a few really good selections, especially from local breweries. If you can only get away for a short time and you're on foot, I'd recommend it.

Hmmm. I must've read a post that mentioned both and mistaken it as one event.

Community Pint is just about my favorite beer geek destination in Spokane as far as bars go. TJ is a great guy and always has a strong taplist that changes regularly, plus to-go options in cans or bottles that are sometimes unique in Spokane. There's a number of quality establishments doing the craft beer bar/growler fill thing and are worth checking out, depending on your location, but CP combines a fairly central location and great beers. Only weakness is a lack of food options outside of special occasions, and it's too small a space to truly change that (I find bringing a burrito with me helps scratch that itch).

I am sitting here as we speak and there’s a chick and a dude making brats and some shit right inside the space. Man, CP is cool. Beers are top-notch, service is stellar, and brats and shit inside is boss.
