I forgot to hit my 1.051 lager with oxygen last night when I pitched. I transferred it twice ( once from the kettle, and then again to remove it from trub) so it should have picked up some oxygen. Is 20 hours too late to hit it with oxygen? What would be too late?

I made a gallon starter with a stir plate.

    No it's not too late.

20 hours? Yeah, I probably would. Another day or so and I'd probably be agonizing over the decision.

Didn't Jamil and Chris say that yeast pick up their oxygen in the first half hour of fermentation?

I'll have to check the book when I get home, but there is a section on this particular question. I recall there being a benefit to hit the O2 at pitching time and again during fermentation. I'll report back on timeframe, unless someone has a copy of the book handy. It's in there.

IIRC, for lagers, they oxygenate at transfer to fermenter then again every 6-12 hours until signs of fermentation. Basically, you are good up until active fermentation begins. I think 24 hours is safe.

A brew of that strength should be fine without oxygenation.Few commercial brewers I've met would bother with it for beer of this strength.Sleep soundly

Few brewers would oxygenate a 1.051 Lager? Things must be different over there.
