i'm more concerned about the shotgunability of lagers more than the flavor.

tough to dislodge dovetail but, ya, agree with your overall point. with each new release pipeworks is showing they're the best well-rounded brewery in chicago.

I wouldn't call a brewery without a tap room and brewpub well rounded....

I think he was referring to their beer offerings, in which case they are pretty darn well rounded.

Why does that matter when it comes to how consistently good the beer they're producing ends up being?

I like their lagers better than Half Acre, which I think is a fair comparison. But Rev Pils is still my go to local pilsner in cans.

Ever heard of Church St. I LOVE Pipeworks, but that was definitely hot-takey!

I have, and have had several of their lagers, and was not favorably impressed. However, its been a year or so since I last had any of their lagers ... any in particular worth revisiting?

That is a great point. So many good lager type options from local breweries, but they are not talked about on this site. Pollyanna Bohemian Pils, Maplewood Pulaski Pils, Church St. Pils. Really kind of premature to put Pipeworks up there...

Absolutely, of their regularly available...Church St. Pils, Pacho Vienna Lager and Itascafest Marzen. Pretty sure they are all 16oz. 4 packs for $9.99. I hope they bring back Conor MrRedder, was amazing.

They do a great job. Again, I know these styles are not popular on this site but this is what I am more into than the crazy adjunct stuff.

But with the ones you've mentioned they are more one-off lagers (and most tend to be just pilsners). I am talking more about breweries who turn out a variety of lagers, like a Dovetail or Metropolitan, which Pipeworks is moving towards. That being said, as Ive been thinking on this I forgot about Great Central Brewing which turns out some excellent lagers and who I'd keep ahead of Pipeworks right now. (GCB I believe still brews Pulaski Pils for Maplewood)
I'll be sure to grab some of these and give them an open minded revisit. Did they recently move to cans (16oz.)? And I'm with you - I love lagers (Pilsner Urquell is probably my desert island beer), and thats why I'm so happy to see more quality offerings out there.

Yeah, I've been underwhelmed by HA's lager offerings, especially given the price point

Because it is a shortcoming. It's like saying Hop Butcher is the most well rounded brewery, but never mind they don't produce half the styles Pipeworks does, why does it matter if the beers Hop Butcher produces are consistently good?

Doesn't change their beer being consistently good, though. Which is what the poster was discussing, I believe. That their "offerings" are well-rounded. Not the brewery as a whole. At least that's how I took it.

Hmm, I would say maybe within the last year although I could be wrong? They switched from 12oz. bottle 6-packs to 16oz. can 4-packs. For the price and quality, can't go wrong. Ahhh yes, love Pilsner Urquell

Correct, the breadth and quality of Pipeworks beer offering is 2nd to none in Chicago-land.

Then you add the easy availability of their offerings and Pipeworks is miles ahead of everyone.

Your opinion is obviously different on who is most well-rounded. That's fine. More the merrier.
