I think each one may have a different face now -- PW Centennial is different from PW Cascade; both are different from Citra Ninja.

    November 22, 2013 Update

    Unicorn Galaxy
Our friends south of the equator really have this hop growing thing figured out and we are ecstatic they do. Without them we couldn't bring you Unicorn Galaxy. We built a platform of malted barley and wheat then atop that we constructed our ode to Galaxy hops. The hop character really shines through with aromas and flavors of tropical fruit, tangerine, citrus, passion fruit and fresh cut grass. Drink early, drink often. 10.99, 22oz, 9.5% ABV

    Derketo
Derketo is a mer-goddess of ancient lore and we thought she would be the perfect representative for our imperialized and hopped up Belgian Style Double IPA. We brewed this light colored ale with boatloads of Amarillo and Galaxy hops and Belgian yeast. The result is perhaps one of the most pleasingly aromatic beer we have ever created. Juicy passion fruit, tangerine and a world of other citrus and tropical entwine themselves beautifully with Belgian yeast notes. Drink as fresh as you can. $10.99, 22oz, 10.0% ABV

    Square Grouper
Our buddies at Four Hands in St. Louis rang us up a couple of months ago with a proposition. They wanted to brew an Imperial IPA and they just happened to have a bunch of Simcoe, Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic hops. We though that sounded like a pretty good idea so they came on up here to Chicago and we did the damn thing. We also added 60 lbs of honey at the end of the boil. The beer that then flowed out of the tanks and into your bottles is a dank symphony of tropical fruit, citrus, mango, pine, fresh cut grass and stone fruit. This was only a single batch and may not make another appearance for a long time. Drink early Drink often. $11.99, 22oz, 9.5%

Derketo and Unicorn Galaxy are available for Friends With Benefits pickup immediately at both Binny's Lincoln Park and West Lakeview Liquors. Square Grouper will be delivered to both later today and may not be in either system yet so please call ahead if you are making a long trip.

I disagree, money spent is money spent. Also I have the freedom of choice, I don't have to "end up paying 2x" for anything.
I can get 4-packs of Heady Topper at a lower price-point (per oz.) than Ninja vs. UnicRon and that's with it being shipped to me from Vermont. Sad reality but I'm used to not buying bombers at this point.

I also don't buy anything but Bourbon County 4-packs since last years price hike was too large for my wallet.

Are they going to rebrew hey man there's a beverage there again? I didn't pick up any the first go and now sit here wondering how a White Russian stout tastes.

    Just ha
fresh PtE and Cascade ninja a few weeks back and I enjoyed the cascade ninja just as much. Pliny is just so balanced. I appreciate it. But it's not the hop bomb that the better ninjas are. Just my opinion, but there are simply so many damn great DIPAs around the country that it's not worth seeking out many of them unless you are simply bored. I've tried a ton of these DIPAs over the last year or two. Nothing beats picking up citra ninja that was bottled earlier that morning. And the guys in Cali will say the same about a fresh Simtra, Pliny, ect. Fresh beer is the best beer.

As long as it's fresh and well crafted, it can't get much better. IMO.

If you haven't already done so, go grab a Square Grouper (or ten). Like, now. Slow clap for all involved. Thanks to all who had hands (pun intended) in it!

The hops and honey used for Square Grouper sounds like it should be very good , [IMG] is it on the shelves anywhere yet? [IMG]

Some replies to you sexy mofos...

pricing, yes we are more expensive at the moment. This is only a matter of scale. The The Alchemist makes over 6000 barrels of heady topper every year on top of their other beers. Last year Pipeworks was at about 500 barrels of total production. We promise we are growing and that our pricing will become more competitive as it does.

New batch of Hey Careful Man is on the schedule

New faces on Ninjas are our Pipeworks crew starting with Scott and Kate.

New batch of Cherry Abduction is going to be way better we thinks. Using McKlug Cherries this go around where as we tried the Oregon fruit puree before and were underwhelmed with boldness of cherry flavor.

    Square Grouper = yum yum

Sounds good to me; is this a replacement of Glaucus or his mythological little sister?

Went to pick up a Super Grouper at Castle Vav and they said they were out or didn't get any. Kind of annoying as a FWB that I couldn't get a bottle.

Alchemist used to brew other beers, but their pub/brewery got demolished back in 2011. They built a cannery thereafter which for some reason only brewed heady topper. However they said recently that they're gonna start brewing other beers again.

The cannery had just started production when the original brewery down in the basement of their brew pub flooded out in August 2011. The pub survived and is now an awesome place under different ownership called The Prohibition Pig, which frequently has Heady on draft -- which makes it hard to drink straight from the can.
