i love those bars too, but it's a bit painful for wife and i to order four glasses of DIPA and paying $35 or so with tax and tip. when you're on vacation, you're playing with monopoly money.

usually when i think about going there i realize i can get almost three 4-packs of Heady or two large growlers of Abner instead and drink them on my porch.

I know Double Sunshine was recently bottled within the last month and is all but gone. The chances of it appearing again this weekend are slim but you never know. I was at Blackback this past weekend. They tapped HF Ephraim at 11 AM Friday, but 4PM Saturday it was all gone. I missed it. The Rez across the street had the same thing and it was all gone as well. That is how quick these beers go.

Ephraim kicked at Pro Pig as well.

Is this true for every Saturday, or just the Saturdays they list on their website (currently showing June 8, July 6, August 10, September 21, October 12)?

i believe Lawson's said they were going to start making Double Sunshine every three weeks, with a few breaks for Double Kiwi.

Only the ones listed, NOT every Saturday.

Suum cuique and all that, but my wife and I both thought the Heady Topper mustard was awful. Like, inedibly bad. I'm such an enormous fan of the IPA mustard at Prime 16 that I thought HT mustard would be life-changing, but it was just terrible. Your assessment of the meat, though, was spot on. I got the brisket and it was mediocre at best.

My take on the three Waterbury bars is as follows:

Rez: expansive, varied taplist, with the best Lawson's selection in town when I was last there. Friendly service. Haven't tried the food.

ProPig: similar taplist to Rez, with slightly higher prices across the board. Added benefit: everything available in half pints. Slow service and disappointing food the one time I went.

Blackback: smaller but better-curated taplist with by far the most HF offerings. Fun, lively, intimate atmosphere. Fair prices. Haven't tried the food.

The next time I go (hopefully sooner rather than later) I'll probably give the Rez a shot for dinner and then proceed to close down Blackback.

I didn't care for the food at the Rez myself, I got a burrito and it did not taste like Mexican food at all. My GF got the Salmon Burger and thought it was fine if a little plain. To be fair the service was excellent at the Rez though. The Pig was good overall, I had fast service at the bar and a good selection.

The pan seared salmon with curry sauce at The Rez was unbelievable! That's all the food I've tried there but i thought the taplist was pretty decent. Blackback much better on tap I thought.

Blackback has Mad Taco inhouse for their food now. The place might be Heaven...

I've never eaten at Pro Pig but I had a Heady Topper mustard with a sausage at the Waterbury Harvest fest during the Luscious release and I remember it not being very good. No real bite to it and somewhat bland. I'd imagine it's what they serve at Pro Pig but who knows since this was before it existed.

Aztlan Foods in Waterbury is BOYB and has out of this world cheapish mexican food, if your looking for that.
