I go to my local shop, and lo and behold there are numerous cans of Super Session #2 on the shelf.

    Like a lot of cans.

Is Lawson's starting to distribute to NY????

I'd heard about this and am glad to hear the rumor is confirmed. Since they started brewing SoS and SS2 out of Two Roads' brewhouse I knew one could find those beers in CT and I guess they've expanded to NY now as well. Good news for us.

Be alarmed, the Connecticut SoS and Vermont SoS are two very different beers.

Care to elaborate? I have only had the Two Roads Brewed SOS but it was "World Class" and all the ratings here seem to bear that out.

SS2 was available on draft in the city back in October.

That and SoS were rumored to be leftover from the Phish concert if I remember correctly.

There’s been an ongoing debate with SoS, regarding some inconsistencies from batch to batch; each batch still being very good. Regardless, it has always been brewed at Two Roads (CT): bottles; cans; draft.

The other thing to consider is Double Sunshine, which some claim to be SoS. That is, SoS is DS with a few modifications:

“I created this beer to be very similar to the Double Sunshine IPA, but slightly different! Our partnership with Two Roads will enable me to brew this beer on a regular basis - they have a beautiful new facility in Stratford, CT and a highly esteemed brewmaster, Phil Markowski, with decades of experience. Most importantly, they have a very soft water source (low mineral content) that almost perfectly mirrors our water source here in Warren, VT. I created the recipe and oversaw the brewing and packaging at their brewery, and will continue to do so in the future. I hope to have this beer on tap all the time at the accounts listed on our website.”

amazing news..if SOS is available here on a regular, or even semi-regular basis, I'll be a very happy man!

I've cans of SS#2 over the past couple of months, albeit at ridiculously marked-up prices for a session ($16.99/6-pack). I'm simply not paying that much for a < 5% brew, though I'm sure enough people will when they see Lawson's on the can. I've had it before and it's good for a session, but not light years better than, say, All Day IPA.

I wouldn't count on seeing cans of SoS anytime soon; it still requires chasing in both CT and VT.

@GoGators @kthoag I went up to CT a while back and got 2 cans of SoS (that was the limit.) I thought it was a wonderful beer, but it was much maltier then I had imagined seeing as SoS had been compared to Heady, Second Fiddle, etc. The beer was only 3 weeks old at that point. Then, my friend brought back a can of SoS from Vermont, which I'm pretty sure was brewed at Sean Lawson's place. Much hoppier, much more bitterness, much better. That's just my experience though.

This was not draft. This was 2 week old cans. And not picked up illegally in CT and driven down to NYC for resale either.

These were a few cents more than $2 a can.

That's reasonable for a beach beer, but not something I'd actively seek out... would rather see cans of Boat available in the city on the regular.

    No, don't think it was:

Also see quote from Lawson's website: "Sip of Sunshine IPA is brewed by Lawson’s Finest Liquids at Two Roads Brewing Co. in Stratford CT."

It's a preference thing; I vastly prefer SS #2 to Boat Beer, but it is hard to compare.

Regardless, this is a great day for NYC beer. Or, if you're already stressed by watching your favorite beers that get distribution selling out in less than 30 minutes at 2PM on a Tuesday afternoon, perhaps this is a terrible day as the NYC hype train picks up steam.

FYI, I visualize the NYC hype train as the train from Snowpiercer, not the train from the Polar Express.

From the old thread in September,
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/lawsons-in-nyc.334982/

It was like 20 kegs of SoS and SS2 that hit the city.
