    Ah yes, sorry misread.

I assume we won't see any regular distribution of lawsons until after they open the new brewery.

@NizzleEGizzle if not brewed at Lawson's, then where? Doesnt make sense to brew in CT to distribute to VT.

It's always and has always been brewed at Two Roads.

Any chance of naming the shop, since the cans are so numerous? I want to go to there.

Milk & Hops - Astor PL -- There were approximately 16 cans on the shelf when I left -- not sure if there was additional inventory in the back.

Nice! Sounds like Kimmich is rapidly becoming the lone hold out for distributing down here. I wonder if the new Alchemist Brewery in Stowe will change that?

I cannot imagine that this will be the case -- although, who knows anymore.

the better speculation will be if we will start seeing SOS start showing up here. In Lawson's previous statements about the scope of their distribution in CT, it has usually centered on the logistics of distribution and not the quantity of beer being produced. I can only imagine that if SS#2 has broken into distribution in NYC, even if only once, that means that Lawson's has had some breakthrough in tapping into the NYC distributors. I can't imagine that this is the last time we will see this beer, and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if SOS comes too. Although if I stumbled on SOS the same way I did SS#2 I would lose my mind.

EDIT: could also have been a one time surplus of beer that was produced and they took the opportunity to ship it to NYC. But...I'd like to believe the former is true.

Considering that Heady doesn't currently make it further south than Warren, which is less than 20 miles from the brewery, I think that the new brewery will just increase the delivery radius within New England. It's more likely that you'd see cans make their way down to Albany than all the way to NYC. I suspect that the new brewery will result in an increase in Focal Banger production and distribution to retail shops.

The reality is that Heady is being propped up by hype and scarcity. There are plenty of locally available brews that are as good, if not far better today IMO. They were the pioneer and one-time standard-bearer for the style, but they've been surpassed. It happens. Don't get me wrong, if it was available locally, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it, but it's not worth the pilgrimage to acquire.

Yea 100% agree that HT will never see distribution outside of VT. Just isn't going to happen. The beer struggles to stay on the shelves for more than a few days in like a 40 square mile area.

Plenty of locally available brews that are as good or FAR better than Heady Topper in the NYC area? Hmmm, not so sure about that. All subjective but I haven't had a beer from Grimm, OH, Singlecut, carton or kane that I would say is far better and the ones that might be as good are few and far between.

Agreed. I love the new influx of great IPAs we've been lucky to enjoy in the tri-state recently. HOWEVER, HT is still a world class beer which is only beat by a very select few IPAs brewed in the Northeast.

Wait, I forgot...It doesn't taste like orange juice and it's bitter!

You guys are getting a little greedy. A few cans of SS2 show up in 1 or 2 stores and now you want Heady Topper and Focal Banger on the shelves too?
I know it's wishful thinking and I'd love to see it too, but I'd still like to hear more about Lawson's distribution in NY.
I would think regular distribution in NY would be announced by the Brewery or the Distributor(s) that will be carrying it but I haven't seen or heard anything about this. Still skeptical whether SS2 will be a regular thing and if we will see cans of SOS in NYC any time soon.

This is awesome, SS2 is my favorite session. Blows Boat out of the water as far as I'm concerned. Would love to see SoS show up in the city.

Gingerman apparently had a keg of SOS on Sunday night according to my beermenus feed.

And to confirm, SOS is brewed in Stratford, not Vermont. It's distributed and sold in CT and VT.

No idea what distributor Gingerman got the keg from though.

Imo, SOS is better than Heady. Still have yet to try Focal Banger.

gingerman had a "bootleggers ball" event this weekend and had some stuff from breweries that do not normally hit distro here, i think they were all limited time distribution via Union.

Hmmm -- maybe this had something to do with scoring cans for the city as well?

Does anyone have a contact at Union they could call about this? Any other shops seeing SS#2?

Yea -- to say that any NYC brews are equal to Heady is stage 1 in the 5 stages of grief. Next we get the pitchforks out for Kimmich -- run, John, run!

Don't get me wrong, I love many NYC IPAs -- but HT is more balanced, complex, and flavorful than any NY counterpart. I had my first HT in about a year 2 weeks ago, and I had forgotten how damn good this beer is. It really is an OG hop-bomb, Biggie or early Outkast in a generation of Drake.

EDIT: I really like Drake, FYI.

My guess is that it was more or less a one-off for last weekend's event(s). Modern Times also sent a bunch of packaged goods for retail along with their kegs (though Jacob of MT cited some weird interstate shipping law as the reason for sending bottles and cans).

Ha, as someone who doesn't really like Drake I take offense to this! I am also not a huge fan of Heady though, at least in the context of top-tier IPAs. I prefer a few Grimm IPAs to Heady, and maybe Mo Shuggie, but overall I agree it still beats most IPAs from NYC. I still prefer it to anything from Other Half, for example. But, relevant to this thread too, I prefer SoS to Heady.
