Ithaca Beer Co. Announces Official Excelsior! LeBleu Release Date

Ithaca, N.Y., March 22, 2012 – Ithaca Beer Co. is excited to announce it will release Excelsior! LeBleu - Sour Blueberry Ale on Saturday, April 14, 2012 when doors open at 11:00AM. Ithaca Beer will have special food pairing festivities planned during the day, in celebration of LeBleu’s release.

LeBleu will only be available for purchase in the Tasting Room at Ithaca Beer. Due to heightened demand and limited quantity of this highly anticipated barrel-aged, bottle-conditioned sour craft ale, customers will be restricted to a one case purchase limit. LeBleu will be sold on a first come, first serve basis only.

Originally intended for a December 2011 release, Ithaca Beer delayed its market appearance, “We wanted to give it plenty of time to barrel-age, and make sure LeBleu bottle-conditioned properly. We carefully monitored its progress every step of the way. We’re excited this beer is now ready for everyone to enjoy!” said brewer, Ben Brotman.

LeBleu is a sour ale brewed with New York State blueberries and wild yeast strain Brettanomyces. LeBleu is a blend of barrels filled in 2010, and 2011. It is finished in the bottle with Champagne yeast. LeBleu is dusty rose in appearance, has a mouthwatering aroma of ripe blueberries, piquant flavor and quick finish.

LeBleu was first brewed in 2009, and has been released once annually as a limited batch beer in the Ithaca Beer 750 mL bottle series, Excelsior!, which is named after and inspired by the New York state motto, Excelsior meaning “ever upward.” The Excelsior! series has also produced notable two-time Great American Beer Festival award-winning beer, Brute.

Ithaca Beer was founded in 1998 by Dan Mitchell, and has brewed and bottled award-winning craft beer at its present establishment ever since then. Ithaca Beer plans to open a new brewing facility and brew pub on 82 acres of land, with plans to also farm items for the pub.

The Tasting Room will be open from 11:00AM – 7:00PM on Saturday, April 14, 2012. Plenty of additional parking is available along Mancini Way – next to the brewery parking lot. Cars parked on Route 13/Elmira Road may be ticketed and/or towed.

Id assume it would be the same as it was last year and with the Brute release, which was $15/bottle.

Is there any sort of bottle share associated with this event, or do you just kinda walk in at 11 and leave after your purchase?

No bottle sharing on premises. It's basically a storefront that just happens to have a series of taps for growler fills and samples.

I wouldn't expect a Captain Lawrence release type atmosphere. More like...show up, get your bottles, try a few samples.

Thanks for the info. I have been there before but never for a release, and didn't know if they had a CL sorta vibe in the morning.

Count me in an ISO! If someone can help me out with one it would be much appreciated! I can split a case/pay for shipping/gas/etc. or trade some goodies for a bottle/multiples? Whatever works, please BM me if you can help out.

They kind of discourage bottle sharing in the parking lot. On the other hand, what they dont see out front, cant hurt them either. You just have to be smart about it.

Being that it is Ithaca, maybe Ill bring up my bottle of TEN to share.

I will be shooting up for the day to do some hiking/beer drinking/beer buying. If anybody from LI wants a bottle or two BM me. I don't have the cellar space/money for a full case...I'm also down for a tasting at the release or afterwards, BM if interested...

^Probably won't be sold out Evan. I lived in Ithaca last year around the time of the release and got a case and a half about 2 weeks after the release.

Also, for all of you wanting to do a bottle share-- I know the former tasting room manager was ok with some bottles being opened in the tasting room at the last Brute release, but I dunno how the current employees feel about it or what the policy will be. If you guys need a place to do a bottle share, drive up highway 13 a few miles to Stewart Park. It's right on the lake and legal to drink there.

edit: Also, Knifestyles is right to some extent about the atmosphere, but at the Brute release it only seemed to be that way because that's what people expected. By the time the crowd cleared out, the leftover people started bringing out bottles for customers as well as employees and everybody enjoyed it quite a bit.

edit edit: @Kaydogg -- I think LeBleu in the past has been 175 cases? And usually $14.95/bottle with no discount for buying a case.

Ahh, looks like it will be invisible bottle sharing, or morning madness at Stewart Park. I'm bringing some things to share for sure anyway.

This will be my first, and probably last, time at Ithaca for a release. All future releases of Jeff O'neil beer will be attended in Peekskill, thankfully closer to home
