I have shipped well over 200 boxes of beer and have recently had my first problems.
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this.

Two different boxes were sent via fed ex and the bottles leaked from the cap.
One beer was a Modern Times club only so small run and the other beer was Rare Barrel (perhaps
these breweries are more prone than others?). Not sure what causes the bottles to leak
but wondering if it is because USPS boxes travel by plane? I do wrap the bottles with painters tape and put in plastic zip locks (the beer leaked out of the zip lock in both cases) I have more beers than
I want to admit that are laid sideways like wine that have not leaked at home.

Also wondering if anyone has ever used Scentsy (the wax cubes that melt and smell nice)
to dip their bottles? Would think this might solve the problem. Or is is so rare that
bottles leak that I should just chalk it up to bad luck.

I have shipped a lot of boxes as well and only had 1 leaker so far. It was sent via flat rate.

I honestly think there is just an occasional bad seal or cap.

As for the wax I don’t have much input as I’ve never tried it.

However, I do not think that the wax would hold up to a whole lot of pressure but I could be wrong.

There was another thread where the question was to tape or not to tape. Only had one bottle leak before and it didn't have tape( I sent it). Never had one leak when I did use tape but honestly it was just luck, I think. I guess you could use wax, I mean breweries use wax themselves. But I guess you would have to ask you trade partner as well. If you wrap your bottle and package good, you should be fine. I think you said it best that it probably was bad luck. Also you said you sent FedEx but mentioned USPS, but it shouldn't make a difference on a plane because I believe it's pressurized. For the fo release I flew down( for work but I did plan my trip around the release) and brought back my bottles and other goodies on my check in bag. No leak or problems. Let us know ow how the wax goes if you do decide to go that route.

I always though storing cap bottles on their side was not good.

But it could be one of those "they say...."

In regards to the airplane vs. bottles part of your question, I have brought bottles packed into my luggage many times including international flights. I have never had a bottle leak in my luggage and I don't think I ever used tape on them.

Not sure if there is a difference between compartments for passenger vs. postal being pressurized though.

Someone in a separate thread (This was regarding being a proxy for someone) mentioned bottles leaking as a result (potentially) of the package being dropped. This seems like the most likely case beyond just "A bad seal" on that particular bottle/cap. The package takes an impact, the beer fizzes/foams, forcing some from under the cap. Lots of leakage but cap remains.

    Personal guess, no idea.

I have had the best luck with USPS. UPS seems to rip a lot of boxes. I get packages all the time that seem like they are half-destroyed. FedEx does a better job it seems, but I have had zero issues with sending or receiving by USPS. That said, I don't use them for everything.
